    Toronto Meet-Up?

    HOT! MEETUPS
I've been itching to meet up with folks again, it's been an age. Won't be able to make the 15th though (and actually most of July is a shit show in general for me) but being in Ottawa the trip isn't usually that difficult for me. I'll keep an eye out for future TO meetups and if anyone is ever...

This has been a bit of a hot topic regarding Wizards of the Coast (they own D&D and MTG) in recent months/years. Most recently it came out that they thought they weren't monetizing D&D as much as they could, and tried to re-write their licensing agreement to extract fees from third party devs...

Yeah, from my understanding, waivers really only apply to REASONABLE risks, specifically within the context of the activity. I can sign a waiver to play paintball, but if the guy running the place flips my mask off and shoots me in the eye - that's outside the scope of reasonable risk. Yes I...

Why you should buy a home as early as possible.

    GOLD! HOT! ASSERTION
My wife and I bought our home in 2008 for $260k at the age of 23-24. Youngest people we knew with a home and neither of us were making killer money. With just some of the equity we built up over the years, we bought an investment property duplex in 2019 for coincidentally the same $260k. Our...

Depends what you mean. Any game with the ability to save will allow you to save like you would normally be able to on original hardware. But not every "core" (what they call the various systems) has the option to do what's called a "save state", which would be like an instant save regardless...

    How to fight depression?

    MINDSET
I've been saying this for years - mental health is largely a physical health issue. Your brain isn't ethereal, it doesn't exist on a different plane of existence. It turns out your brain is kept in your body and runs on chemicals and electricity. Like any bodily system, when you pull different...

Here's a fun little project I put together recently. I've always been pretty big into retro gaming - I own a bunch of old systems but almost never break them out anymore due to the inconvenience and upkeep required. I've tried PC emulation in the past but I never liked sitting in front of a...

Reddit starts charging for API access, fiasco ensues...

    EXECUTION
Reddit will keep getting away with the games they play until a genuinely viable alternative is in place to "scoop up" the disgruntled users. Digg died when they played games with their users not because of the games they played, but rather because they played games with an audience that had an...

What do You think about this resume? Should I improve something?

    MARKETING
Things I like: - Focusing on achievements over tasks ("increased x by y") - The general layout Things I don't like: - Your achievements are really, really bad. They aren't something I'd brag about. I've been in sales before and if I did 10 leads in 1 month I wouldn't have made it to month 2...

Tin Foil Hat Time: Are Aliens Here?

    HOT! CHAT
As a skeptic, I don't normally engage much with UFO/UAP topics - however there seems to be a story brewing right now that is picking up enough traction that it is leaking out into more conventional channels (which is how I heard about it). In short (as I understand it, I could be off on a few...

Why on earth would you journal about the things you hate instead of brainstorming ideas on how to prevent those things from happening again in the future? Solve your problems so you don't have to try and remember them. Examples: People keep dinging your car door - park further away...

    A Job Isn’t Giving Up

    NOTABLE! SIDE HUSTLE
I quit my job to focus on entrepreneurship 100% years and years ago. I ran three businesses that failed to bring me the results I wanted and because I had no job, I was also forced to pull money from the businesses to live on more than I'd like. The last business I closed down was a very...

SIDE HUSTLE: How To Flip Couches & Books For Money! (Try This!)

    IDEA SIDE HUSTLE
99% of people don't know how to fix anything, and those that could, generally don't bother. A LOT of stuff gets donated, thrown out, sold for cheap, etc that would have tremendous value if restored. Phones, small/old electronics, watches, appliances, small engines, furniture, vehicles, etc...

SIDE HUSTLE: How To Flip Couches & Books For Money! (Try This!)

    IDEA SIDE HUSTLE
FYI - people do this with ALL kinds of products. I know flipping furniture is a huge one. Most furniture being sold is battered and worn. Sand it up, fresh coat of paint, and boom - you just turned a $20 used dresser into a $400 "new" dresser. Anyone with basic woodworking skills could make...

I think my local store carried the sodium version but it doesn't matter in terms of removing chloramine and neither sodium nor potassium are a problem when we're talking residuals. You get plenty of both through your normal diet anyway. Yeah, they are dirt cheap and last absolutely forever...

Here's my favorite secret to posting high value content: hit the delete button more often than the reply button. I'm Canadian but even I have to admit that Lincoln was onto something with that whole "unsent letter" practice he had.

FYI, many places have switched from unstable chlorine to very stable chloramine. Getting chloramine out of water is much harder and chances are any reasonably affordable filter system won't effectively remove it. Reverse osmosis is basically the standard from a filter point of view. If you go...

That's what I've always heard as well. The density of memorable moments / novelty is a strong factor in determining our perception of time by giving us lots and lots of "anchors" to recall during a given time period. If you do nothing for a month, you effectively have no meaningful memory...

Friends and Family are treating me differently..

    QUESTION
I would consider the idea of "compartmentalizing" your life. There's a time and place and audience for different topics - you should identify them and stick to it. Your friends don't care about the psychology of increasing conversion rate, your parent's don't want to hear about your sex...
