Fastlane Failure: I created a job

The lesson I'll bring this long-winded story to an end with what I learned from it. The adventure wasn't a complete failure because it was a good job for many years. But I should have accepted equity in the business instead of selling the software for cash. That decision cost me my retirement...

Fastlane Failure: I created a job

Going up I quit my IT job and started work full time on the software. The early years were a lot of fun - we kept getting more clients, expanding the software with new features, and working on many interesting integration projects. Companies all over the world were using the software I created...

Fastlane Failure: I created a job

I'm not sure how long this is going to be, I might have to break it into several parts. Here's my story of invention that is part success, part failure. A tool is created A little over a decade ago, I was working for a small company doing IT support and programming. It was a good job where my...

    IT Consulting/programming

    SIDE HUSTLE
My area of expertise has been continuation of legacy systems (that 15 year old ERP software haha), databases and data analysis, and application development. I no longer utilize these skills at my job (they have me tinkering with windows stuff on PCs), it's time to move on but I'd rather not get...

    Major Quickbooks Price Increase. Alternatives?

It seems there are options out there for those who are frustrated with quickbooks, or have outgrown it, but the problem is they aren't quickbooks, and people don't like to learn a new way of doing things. From what I gather, most CPAs/accountants that work with smaller businesses know quickbooks...

What Countries and Places Offer the Best Life Quality?

    OFF-TOPIC
I've been to the Philippines twice, and attempted to learn some of the language. I'm an introvert also, but I had a really fun time there with the locals trying to speak their dialect - perhaps it was the Filipino people, but I really noticed a difference in my behavior when I was there. It was...

    IT Consulting/programming

    SIDE HUSTLE
Anybody here doing IT consulting, or did it in the past and got out? Is there still good money in this kind of work, or is everyone outsourcing to India or having college students do this kind of stuff on the cheap?

    Showcase your (web)design skills HERE

    SIDE HUSTLE WEB DESIGN
Perhaps this showcases my lack of web design skills (I've spent the last 20+ years writing code and doing database stuff), last year I created bayabas.com, in an attempt to build a web-based personal finance app. An interesting experiment and good learning experience for me, but it never...

A viable option to Windows hedgemony...Linux apps on ChromeOS

I've been working with Linux since the early 1990s. The biggest problem with it, for consumer use, is that there are many different 'flavors' or 'distributions' of Linux. All with different installers, different programs to change/manage settings, etc. It suffers from what the tech world in...

How can someone work every waking hour???

    HOT!
I think it depends on how a person's brain/thought process works. Many years ago, I was working on a project I really enjoyed - it was a large, complex software project. I would think about it all the time - while eating, while mowing the lawn, in the shower, at night trying to fall asleep. I...

Build-A-Bear promotion + backfire. 8+ hour queues for teddy bears..

    FUNNY
Maybe not 100 percent failure - it's all over the news now. Kids everywhere that didn't know about it will want one after seeing everyone lining up for it.

Which operating system do you and other entrepreneurs use? (computer and mobile)

Linux (many different ones) for PC/server, and iOS for mobile (iphone). I have windows 10 on a laptop but only use it when absolutely necessary.

    Which phones do you own?

    OFF-TOPIC
iPhone 6s. I'd like use it until it dies, just like the Motorola phone I had prior to this one, but with all the iOS updates I don't know if I can just swap out the SIM card when I'm in the Philippines. It worked when the phone was new but I've heard rumors that you can't do it anymore.

    Time to reboot...

    INTRO
Hello everyone, After working various I.T. jobs the past 20 years, it's time to reboot and start something new. I'm building web apps for personal finance, and I'm not a web developer - new stuff but not completely foreign. I've got a lot to learn on the business side of things, but I'll get it...
