Porking with Purpose (Dad Blog) PROGRESS THREAD

    EXECUTION
Agreed, and one of us probably should have recognized that. However, most people here that I know don't give pats on the back just for starting something. If you take the feedback that was given, and implement changes that are consistent with your vision and market demand, I believe you'll see...

Porking with Purpose (Dad Blog) PROGRESS THREAD

    EXECUTION
Agreed. Also the block at the bottom of each article showing "related" products. Most people are aware blogs are monetized, but they want it to be less overt. I also couldn't get past the font/logo at the top. I know you're probably trying to make it kid-like and cute, but it doesn't resonate...

How should we think about spending money for our business?

We're using Nusii.com Like I said, grabbed it super cheap when it was on Appsumo. Integrates with Zapier and Stripe (and some others). It lets me save sections, or entire templates, so I can piece together proposals very quickly.

    US-Based Taxes/Business Formation (CPA)

    TAXES | REGS AMA
As long as you can support that $15 an hour is a reasonable rate of pay, that should be fine. Keep in mind you probably had other time into the business (sourcing products, creating listings, etc). If you subcontract those things out, then you have a stronger case for supporting your decision...

How should we think about spending money for our business?

I pay when it's either (1) necessary or (2) saves/earns me money. Examples: Necessary - I pay for payroll software to run payroll for my clients. I can't feasibly keep up on compliance laws for all 50 states, so this is necessary. Saves money - I paid for proposal software off Appsumo (it was...

Just make your own. Blend up almonds and water, run through a cheesecloth. Or, they make special nut sacks (don't google that).

Make $1,000 in 30 Days as a new entrepreneur

    SIDE HUSTLE
You've been here for 4.5 years... So this seems like a silly question at this point. Presumably you've read the Gold threads? And then the Notable threads? With a bookkeeping business, do more bookkeeping. For $1k a month, that's anywhere between 1-10 clients depending on your niche and...

My biggest purchase…$40k SaaS stock trading platform, using $28k of debt

    SAAS / APPS EXECUTION
I just worked on financials for a trading Saas, what a small world (it wasn't this one, I can tell by the amounts you put in your description). I had the same concerns when running through the analysis - user churn. What makes your software proprietary, unique, and better than the rest? And how...

How to legally pay no taxes... possible?

    HOT! TAXES | REGS
It's a timing issue. If you buy the inventory this year, and sell it next year, you're just manipulating when the cost is recognized ("manipulate" in this sense is not intended to be negative). This means at some point, you can expect a large reversal. What happens when you get to the end of...

Expat living abroad Diff countries every 6 months do I pay taxes?

    TAXES | REGS
Thanks for the call-out. I focus on US taxes, so no help here. I would look for an accountant from your country that is familiar with international taxation.

Home Office deduction for rental income. How are you guys doing it? If at all...

I wouldn't make any effort to put it on a Schedule C due to the self-employment taxes you mentioned. Rentals are always* Schedule E, so passive. I imagine the home office doesn't offer massive tax savings, so I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. * There are always exceptions...

Amazon guys who work in the millions, are these guys numbers right?

Also, 45k in interest? 28k in software? Literally all of those expenses are way too high.

Amazon guys who work in the millions, are these guys numbers right?

From what I've seen (and I've seen quite a few), some of those numbers are pretty out of whack. Amazon fees at 30% of revenue are about average. Payroll is too high. I have clients selling millions with 0-1 employee. Rent is too high. Professional fees is too high. This guy has good...

How important is an 'about us' page with personal info for small and mid sized businesses?

    MARKETING
I go back and forth on this. On one hand, it helps build trust. On the other, I don't want the company to depend on whether or not people like me or my story.

Plus, smoke detectors are now required to be inter-connected in most areas. Can you imagine the wiring diagram for the home that has a smoke detector in each ceiling fan? You'd have multiple circuits running to each box, which also sounds like a bad idea. No thanks.

Agree completely. We built our house recently - 1250 square feet (plus I'm finishing part of the basement for the office). Do you know how hard it is to even find a usable floor plan at this size? This was the only one under 3000 square feet that we could find with two full bathrooms. There...
