Coaching Programs to Accelerate/Kick Start Progress

@snowbank recently had openings for his Incubator program which I applied for, was accepted before but before I could hustle up the money to enter the group it filled up. :( Now I'm in a situation of having the money and the desire to accelerate my progress towards starting a business without a...

Aim for singles or home runs?

First off this may be a mute point because I am yet to start a business in spite of spending a lot of time learning about the topic. All the same it's still an interesting question: Should I be only aiming for home run business ideas which are going to lead to my ultimate lifestyle or should I...

Maintaining IP Ownership as a Contractor

Good point. I do get paid fairly well for what I do now so I don't mind sharing some of it if it helps other centres. I also think this could then lead to other opportunities down the road such as consulting work, etc. I've heard it said before in a few places that giving away 90% of your...

Maintaining IP Ownership as a Contractor

Good advice! The more people I talk to I'm finding that they seem to want a sharing economy where things are given away for free. We all work in non-profit hospitals where money is not always easy to come by but the need of patients is everywhere. Even if I don't make a cent off this but I...

Maintaining IP Ownership as a Contractor

Thanks for the reply @Jon L I am looking into contacting other hospitals to perhaps do some work for them as well so that would be an option. I'm also looking to ask other hospitals to share their reports on the website to help build up the number of reports available. I figure the more...

Maintaining IP Ownership as a Contractor

I can create the report ok but it's testing it against the database and knowing in which tables/fields the data is stored that would require access to the system.

Maintaining IP Ownership as a Contractor

Not nearly as strict from what I know. I've never worked in US but have heard about HIPPA. We have guidelines and as you said the privacy act but no strict rules about how to maintain privacy. Just basics like "don't share patient data". Hopefully it won't take a massive breach for things to...

Maintaining IP Ownership as a Contractor

Thanks for the reply @Rudynate The reports files I will provide won't contain any patient data. The hospitals will need to take the report and run it against their own database so I will never see or be in possession of patient data except while testing the reports. Should be all good on that...

Maintaining IP Ownership as a Contractor

Thanks for the reply @David Young You're right that the reports I create in my 9-5 will be owned by the hospital but as they aren't going to sell them or anything I'm hoping I can work out some sort of agreement where they will let me share them for free for the benefit of other hospitals with...

Maintaining IP Ownership as a Contractor

Ok so I've got an idea which has grown from a need I've identified at my 9-5 job at a public hospital. I've already started contacting other centres and have got a very positive response. I'll be creating reports from an patient record database which is used at around 50 centres around...

How will you measure your life? (Still business related)

    BOOKS
How will you measure your life? by Clayton M. Christensen (not an affiliate link) I've recently been listening to this book. First and foremost I'd define this book as a self-help book as it is mostly about life in general and not specifically entrepreneurship. I did find an interesting point...

    Pursue Things That Interest You

Thanks for all the responses. I wasn't so much asking the question as just looking to start a conversation so it was good to read the replies and see the different viewpoints. @Ubermensch is right in that I haven't made any money from a side hustle yet and, to be honest, I don't know what the...

    Pursue Things That Interest You

Watched this video this morning and it really struck a chord with me. I'm always curious and I love to learn new things. I spend time every day reading books, reading blogs and watching YouTube videos to learn things. So far my life has turned out pretty well but I'm not exactly where I want...

Hobbies & Passions - what are yours?

    HOT! MINDSET
Another hobby/passion of mine would be technology! I think technology is another empowering force in today's world and is capable of solving so many of life's problems. I love technology for what it makes possible, what it enables people to do. Some of the stuff Bill Gates writes about how...

Hobbies & Passions - what are yours?

    HOT! MINDSET
I agree with @V8Bill that hobbies are important and I'd argue that they are even more important before we reach the stage @Ubermensch mentions where we've got it all figured out and get paid/make money by doing what we love. Most of us are here to build a business that makes money and that...

Why it's often good to start small

    FTE
Derek Sivers' latest blog article just came through my feed and it really hit home to me given my lack of confidence with starting a SaaS business as I talked about here. Here's a link to Derek's blog post. https://sivers.org/asking Basically he describes starting as small as possible just...
