    Is it correct path?

    SIDE HUSTLE
Others have found that the best way to learn coding is by building something for a specific purpose--like a problem you need to solve. Otherwise the learning is generic & doesn't sink in. Decide on a simple app idea--ideally a problem that the app solves that someone will pay you to solve--and...

To answer your questions Hard to say if your goal is realistic--it'll depend how much money you need to replace your income (while generating enough revenue to first keep the businesses running & growing). It'll also depend on how much you can charge for the SAAS, how big the market is, how...

Reminds me of something I read recently in a memoir written by a Navy SEAL ("The Heart and the Fist: The Education of a Humanitarian, the Making of a Navy SEAL" by Eric Greitens). He said his lowest emotional point during SEAL Hell Week was when he allowed himself to feel lousy about his own...

Hello from longtime lurker and writer

A little late to the party, but a common theme I've seen for successful nonfiction & fiction books is the use of open loops--e.g., Malcolm Gladwell, Andy Weir's The Martian (initially self-published, a chapter at a time, if I recall correctly), Michael Crichton, Carl Hiaasen, Christopher...

See how pernicious these fixed mindsets are? Discipline, execution, consistency--they're all things you can do. Start with something small, but do it every day--even just making your bed (thanks to @Vigilante for sharing this--one of the best things I've read & watched lately): 10 Life Lessons...

Doing it all and seeing what sticks

    EXECUTION
By validation, I was referring more to how can you talk to (like literally talk to) prospective customers & see if they'll pay you for the idea. There are all kinds of things we COULD create, but validation from paying customers tells you whether the idea is worth doing.

Actually, validation in the sense that you can get people to pay you for the service--tutors and/or students who need tutors and/or high-schools who want to boost their students' performance. You might also consider your value skew (how much more valuable is your thing vs. competitors' things)...

Speed Reading: Is it worth it?

    HOT!
What @RazorCut said. Also, I have done some speed reading--I think it was Tim Ferriss's approach, basically where you train your eye movements to continually move across each line of text, without pauses or re-reading words/lines. It worked well, but I found it required a lot of focus & mental...

How would this be different than, say, Khan Academy or other existing tutorial-type sites? And how could you slap together an MVP, maybe by using existing tools? Maybe by creating a private Youtube channel for paying students, or a membership area on a Wordpress website. Again, the idea is...

A few things: Stop telling yourself you're not a risk taker. That's a fixed mindset, and it's better to have a growth mindset; if you're not familiar with fixed vs. growth mindsets, here's a summary: Carol Dweck: A Summary of The Two Mindsets Executing consistently is what creates the change...

There are always ways to talk directly with your intended users/customers--without going the open-access-to-all-landing-page route. Identify 20, 50, or 100 specific people who you think would be ideal customers, talk to them, show them your super-rough & ugly MVP, and get feedback. Getting out...

Using freelancers to help start your company

All that said, I'm curious about your business model: Will you focus on specific brands (e.g., Apple) or hardware (e.g., laptops) or a specific market (e.g., cellphone tower construction companies)? The reason I ask is that often, aspiring business owners don't identify their target market &...
