Why you will probably fail/not make it.

    MINDSET FAILURE
If you solve a problem that people ask you to solve, you'll be a lot more successful. If you start a business just because you want to, you'll probably fail.

Hey folks, just got off the phone with @IceCreamKid. He was kind enough to spend nearly 2 hours on the phone with me discussing my business concepts, copywriting, and a number of related topics. He's the real deal - I learned a lot, and came away with a ton of actionable items for my business. I...

A A quick clarification-it's not find something people want, it's fund people's painpoints and frustrations. Then use that information to craft a solution. People buy solutions to problems. A subtle but important distinction. Look up Dane Maxwell idea extraction-he walks through this process...

So there are a few steps you can take now: -google scented soap for sensitive skin, see what's out there -research what causes reactions to soaps and see what makes the sensitive skin soaps different -talk to people with sensitive skin and ask them why they don't use existing scented soaps...

@jpa0827 Those are all good things to think and consider, but please...just talk to real live human beings. Use things like twitter search, etc. to know who to talk to and what questions to ask. Why don't you use your twitter search methodology to uncover a potential pain point, bring it back...

Success + exotic car = Sued?

    HOT! MINDSET
We had a call in my EMS system where a city bus ran into the back of the car in front of it at very low speed. There was virtually no chance that anyone was hurt. When the medic got to the bus, literally everyone on the bus was complaining of neck and back pain, and that everyone wanted to go to...

Yes. Why can't YOU be the competition that exposes something new? Why? That's the whole point of this forum. If big companies knew everything about every topic, how could new businesses pop up? Did those big dog food companies all start on June 4th, 1953 and from thereafter no new company...

This screams to me "I don't want to actually talk to people, because I'm afraid of asking them 'is there anything you dislike about your wallet? If there was one thing you could have that would improve your ownership of your pet, what would it be? When you bought your money clip, what were you...

Medal of Honor recipient discusses leadership

Enjoyed this discussion by Captain Swenson. There is a lot to take away with regard to humility, leadership, followership and selfless service. I believe there are a lot of parallels with regard to leading people in business and self-directed guidance toward a singular goal.

Sidewalk to Slowlane - Dating Company Internship Bad on Resume?

    SLOWLANE
Also, I am a self-appointed expert on Craigslist jobs. PM me your resume and I'd be happy to offer advice. Craigslist jobs have landed me every job I've had or launched from in DC, including my current job as a speechwriter for 3 & 4 star generals.

Sidewalk to Slowlane - Dating Company Internship Bad on Resume?

    SLOWLANE
The vast majority of hiring managers don't want an entrepreneur in their ranks, as they tend to make bad employees and are apt to up and leave and possibly compete with them (forward-thinking hiring managers are exceptions and welcome/nurture organizational entrepreneurs). If you absolutely must...

This. I can't tell you the thousands of times I've told myself "you're bothering that person...they don't want to talk to you...what if you annoy them?..." It's all bullshit. Who cares? Especially when you are trying to help them?! Yes, be strategic. Use selling techniques, don't be a jerk and...

How social are you with strangers?

    HOT! MINDSET
I know for me a lot of my psychological hang-ups stem from trying to outsmart everyone and guess what everyone is going to do/think 3 steps ahead (in fairness to myself, it's led to good success in my day job working in DC). It leads not only to analysis paralysis, but also making often...

Why All The Secrecy? Here's Why...

    IMPORTANT!
Exactly the same for me - it's what got me interested in entrepreneurship in the first place...in fact looking up stuff to compete with the business I saw for sale there not only led me to this forum, but allowed me to build something that today earns me between $500-$1500 passively/month.

New Rep System, Some Other Things...

MJ - one of the things I am building on the side with a friend is a way to track and incentivize goal setting and goal achievement. I think it'd be really cool to have some way to set goals and get "money" for achieving them. I don't know exactly how that would work, but for instance maybe if...

Who else is inspired by the Olympics?

    MINDSET
It's Olympics season - every 2 years we are treated to the best athletes in the world laying their hearts, souls and bodies on the line, all in order to achieve the title of "Olympic Champion" and reach the Pantheon of sport. Another athlete proves it doesn't matter...

There are some companies that cater to guiding professional athletes through this process. If I remember correctly, they are typically run by former pro athletes, lawyers and accountants. In fact I believe some teams make their players go to seminars held by these groups. I wonder if there are...
