    Jumping on the bandwagon

    PUBLISHING
This is a terrific point. It wasn't that long ago that simply publishing a book, and then offering it for free, for even a short while, virtually guaranteed lots of readers and the potential to rank on the paid charts after the free run was over. Now, even authors who give their books away for...

From The Stage To The Page

    PUBLISHING
Wow, that's so exciting! It's empowering to consider the possibilities of focusing on a path with no gatekeepers (self-pubbing) as opposed to the movie avenue, where multiple people have to say "yes" before your vision can become a reality. And your background should give you a huge head start...

    Selling My Body

Dang! Of course, you're right that it means there's a need for it. I find it interesting though that I looked for such a thing about six months ago, and didn't find it. It makes me wonder if they're not doing a great job of getting the word out. Also, just taking a quick browse, the images are...

    Selling My Body

Yes! In fact, I was kind of surprised that something like this didn't already exist...until I started searching for cover photos. And dang, did it EVER take up a lot of time. This really is a spectacular idea, IMO. I could see a name like coverpix or something similar.

    Selling My Body

Oh hey, an additional note...I don't think authors would consider giving up a percentage of their royalties. But I could see them either paying you, or more likely, if you can post your photos on one of those sites (like istock photos or wherever), you can sell the same photo multiple times. For...

    Selling My Body

Actually, I think this is a great question for the forum, since so many of us now are writing romance. And I'd definitely be interested to hear what other authors here say. To answer the original question, I can say firsthand that it's not always easy to find that perfect pix of a smokin' hot...

    Beta Readers...

    PUBLISHING
As an idea, have you ever thought of splitting your book into two parts? Depending on how the plot is structured and if it has strong pacing throughout, you might have two books on your hands, or possibly even three.

    Jumping on the bandwagon

    PUBLISHING
Interesting debate... I follow a lot of news about self-publishing -- blog postings, podcasts, all the great info here, and of course, my own experience. Obviously, HFR's amazing thread is true gold. But I can't help but wonder how easy his success would be to duplicate these days. I think...

    Finally here!

    EXECUTION
I love the concept, and the product looks awesome! A quick comment though...the Web site loads reeeeally slooooow... If I weren't so interested to see what you were doing, I'd have clicked away before getting all the great details. Might there be a way for you to reduce the graphics or...

    My first book!!!

    PUBLISHING
Congrats on finishing your book! Whoohoooo indeed!!!! About getting beta readers, I recall someone, maybe @COSenior, mentioning you could find them on Goodreads. I haven't done this personally, but it might be a good option if you're hesitant to share with friends or family. Speaking of...

How my English Teacher Would Laugh

    PUBLISHING
For what it's worth, I think you're making the smart decision to hit publish now. If book #1 ends on a cliffhanger, you'll get a fair share of hate for it, but I think that's just part of the game. Either way, the feedback on book #1, whether in the form of what people say in reviews, or even by...

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
Alas, this is going to be a long, convoluted answer, so I apologize in advance! The story of my breakout book is a little weird. I woke up one morning in July, while I was still immersed in genre/pen name #1, but an idea for an opening romance scene popped into my head so strongly that it...

What would you do with a series of valuable ebooks?

    PUBLISHING
If you haven't read it already, this thread might be a good place to start. https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/community/threads/hello-from-denver-self-publishing-success.46006/ Even though the thread deals primarily with fiction, a lot of the process information should be helpful to you as you're...

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
A personal milestone...Tomorrow is the first day of my 11-year-old's Summer vacation. Thanks to the success of this self-pubbing venture, this is the very first Summer he's able to stay home rather than go to some sort of daycare while I trudge off to a grubby, windowless office. The smile on...

I'll second this. I've published six books, and have probably spent less than $40 to produce all of them combined. The only expense was some stock photography that I used to design my last two covers.

Thanks for your comments about this thread, I really appreciate it! Just a thought...Have you ever considered writing your memoir as a novel? I've heard that memoirs can be a tough sell, but maybe if you could write it as fiction, and maybe spice it up with added drama and romance, you might...

PROGRESS THREAD: How I quit my Job to pursue a Self-publishing Fastlane Journey

    PUBLISHING
I've heard that Germany is one of the best places to self-publish right now. With that in mind, I'm betting that you could use your German language skills to a good advantage. BTW, your English looks excellent to me! Also, it looks like you've lived quite the interesting life already. I'm...

I'm the same way, so I can totally relate. The trick, I think, is to not get so bogged down in editing that you never hit "publish." Definitely! And already, you've pulled away from the crowd, just by finishing a book, and then through the editing process. Never forget how much you've achieved...
