Lex DeVille's: How to Make $1,000 a Week with no Degree, no Feedback, & no Portfolio.

    GOLD! SIDE HUSTLE
Excellent advice and explains why our conversion rate on Upwork is relatively low. I will have staff implement this ASAP. Thanks!

    Tracking employees location

Don't gotta tell me. I've done statistical modeling for clients on optimal delivery vs. actual. Their employees tend not to like me for some reason. But in all honesty, I suspect there are mismatched incentives at play here. If their only incentive is an hourly check, then they aren't interested...

    Tracking employees location

I'd start by looking at incentives first. Great book to read on management is Up the Organization if you can find a copy.

Is postmaster@domainname.com still required? Or did the rules change?

I'm not saying get rid of the coffee shop, just restructure and scale it back so it's basically a coffee cart and you're competing on convenience. It's great that you've got the best coffee around, but I'm not sure it makes sense for that location.

    HOT! MARKETING
I wasn't referring to "the book". Yes, the book is wonderful, so wonderful it's huge. I meant more the knowledge that has been shared and accumulated here along with the books that are recommended.

    EXECUTION
You aren't crazy. Here's what's on my agenda for the next two or so months Split main business into three separate businesses Open a fourth (professional publishing co.) and fifth business (subscription based online business) Help launch 3 food related businesses, a consulting business, and...

    How to get results

    HOT! MARKETING
I'd honestly suggest two big things. (1) Look at the GOLD posts here and many of the books recommended by various users. People have literally given away close to a million bucks in free knowledge on this forum. Just this week and last, I got tremendous value and better understood how I need to...

Also keep in mind that the B&N and a lot of the co-located "Starbucks" are really licenses or franchises run by B&N or the co-location, which is basically free money for Starbucks since they get the dough but don't have the liability associated with the location. Don't be afraid to kill this...

Trump Tax Plan = Big Tax Cut for Fastlaners

    TAXES | REGS
Unfortunately we (being the People's Republic of Californiastan) apply the minimum tax to S-Corps as well. We're just special like that. A straight single owner LLC is usually disregarded for tax purposes. This means that you'd pay the same tax as a sole proprietor.

Trump Tax Plan = Big Tax Cut for Fastlaners

    TAXES | REGS
Try telling that to Mary Kay/Amway/Avon peeps. My unfortunate colleagues who service these clients inform me that for some magical reason, many of their direct seller clients purchase as much merchandise as they can fit in the hideous pink Caddy on the theory that it will cause a tax deduction.

It's a shame, but I have to agree. On the plus side, you're ahead of 95% of small businesses because you know your margins and know what's biting you. Three recommendations I will make: (1) Do something about that lease. Figure out what the library's incentive for renting the space is and be...

I'm trying to get at the magnitude of the monthly loss and where it's coming from. There are two general things to look at from a financial standpoint. The first is cash coming in the door from customers, which it sounds like you're confident about the pricing. The second is cash going out the...

For the love of God, STOP using boilerplate pitches.

    PEOPLE RANT
I know that feeling. Some chucklehead came up with a "clever" LinkedIn message template to send to contacts that was entertaining the first time, annoying the second time, and pathetic the third through nth times. I still get it on average once a week from professionals, which makes it even...

Think of the other money-maker with a subscription based business, the mailing list. I can up-sell, cross-sell, and down-sell all day long. Plus, if I get bored I can always rent the list or have other companies pay me to give their stuff to my list.

It sounds like you're saying that your shop is located inside a library. I had a client who was working with a major food service company on something similar. Presumably your hours are tied to the library, correct? Also, do you have a separate entrance or do you have an entrance off the...

    Shipping question

Hi gang, So I'm working on an online business idea that involves recurring monthly shipments of a US sourced product. I've got almost everything ready to start testing, but I've run into a snag regarding shipping costs. What are some of the resources you'd suggest I'd look at in regards to...

    IDEA
