What book are you reading? Right now. Post up!

    NOTABLE! HOT! BOOKS CHAT
For Christmas someone received a copy of "The Ride of a Lifetime" by Robert Iger (CEO of Disney). My first thought was "this looks like an uninspiring autobiography of a self-important CEO" but I caught myself in that toxic sidewalker mindset. I decided instead that this man was objectively very...

Have you had your "FTE"? (Or Was it an FTM?!)

    GOLD! MINDSET FTE CHAT
My FTE was the month of February 2018. I had returned to a previous internship excited to pick up where I left off in developing the electronics, firmware and software of novel IoT platform for the company. In my inexperience I assumed this was implied when I arranged to return, but the company...

This could be the next facebook

    OFF-TOPIC
Also, the "pitfalls" of existing social media are usually carefully chosen to add value. E.g: Twitter: there is no technical restriction on 280 characters. If they wanted to I'm sure they could increase it (as they have in the past). The value of Twitter is that posts are short. concise, and...

This could be the next facebook

    OFF-TOPIC
@FauxPas is this your venture? The post you linked was published one day after your forum join date, coincidence..? Edit: Just in case this was a legitimate post seeking discussion, I'm not sure what the added value of a social media service like this is. Facebook already connects people...

Am I trying to water an idea for a need that doesn't exist?

    IDEA
At lunch today I listened to a recent episode of @Kak 's podcast where he discusses an interview from Elon Musk, especially where Elon says "you start out with an idea that is mostly wrong". Essentially, more important than having a solid plan from the get-go (which is often impossible anyway)...

Posting Open Questions on the Forum (Already a function)

That's what those are! As a new member, I noticed this occasionally but wasn't able to figure out a pattern for which posts it applied to. I thought you were A/B testing!

Posting Open Questions on the Forum (Already a function)

On other forums I've visited, unless the "open/close question" mechanic is enforced as part of the culture (e.g. StackExchange) I find that it tends to be underutilized to the point where it's not helpful. Also, In the case of StackExchange, the questions are supposed to be much more specific...

Am I trying to water an idea for a need that doesn't exist?

    IDEA
I did see a few existing solutions like AquaSpy or Deere Field Connect that are mainly in the business of selling access to data that could potentially increase yield. For those farmers, it's more about actionable data than remembering to water. For them I suppose every extra bit of yield is...

Am I trying to water an idea for a need that doesn't exist?

    IDEA
I like it. During my research of existing solutions I felt as though a gap existed between weekend warriors and full-blown agriculture. I'll take this into consideration, thanks!

Am I trying to water an idea for a need that doesn't exist?

    IDEA
Thanks. Maybe I was over-thinking it - a potential target market was in the quote the whole time, as you pointed out. I'll try connecting with that target market, as well as looking more deeply into why the existing solutions folded to avoid any specific mistakes they may have made.

Am I trying to water an idea for a need that doesn't exist?

    IDEA
Tl;dr: I began pursuing an idea based on research into adding value into an existing type of product. Turns out products similar to my idea have all failed. Did they fail because they didn't deliver on their purpose or because there was no real need? Since reading Unscripted and TMF, I've been...

Decentralizing your important stuff, smart phone dependence

    OFF-TOPIC
Funny story (in retrospect of course!). Glad you got your phone back. I've been slowly moving my digital life a password manager. Some managers can generate authenticator codes, which removes the reliance on using an authenticator app on your phone and means you don't need to use SMS...

I have $1,000, should I invest? Save? Buy hazmat suit?

    HOT! INVESTING
An alternative picture: I want a book with a list price of $60 (I'd say that's a more fair price for a 600pg in my experience). Some textbooks are hundreds of dollars. I check the book availability on my phone. If they don't have it I request it from that or another library in the system. I...

Sunsetting of 2G, 3G Cellular Networks (Implications for IoT Industry)

I wanted to share an article I found that may be of interest to the forum, especially those in the IoT hardware industry. This might be common knowledge in the IoT industry but I'm a professional electronics designer in another industry as well as a hobbyist, and I didn't realize this was...

Should I sell single or multiple products in my niche?

I've been wondering about this as well. I'm working on a new product and I've identified a few different "variants" I can sell at different prices that have different features. I would think having multiple versions of your product (even if the differences are small) would be better than selling...

Frustrated trying to JUST buy crypto safely in the UK..

    CRYPTO INVESTING
I have used both Coinbase and Binance and I trust them enough to buy from and then withdraw crypto to my hardware wallet. I'm Canadian and I think the QuadrigaCX scandal still echos for many in our community so trust beyond that is slow to earn! Edit: I should say I haven't verified my account...

Where's the time to start something?

    RANT
Perhaps a quick aerobic workout could substitute for coffee? Coffee has a half-life in the body of 12 hours, putting you at risk of reduced sleep quality. As @thechosen1 mentioned, getting enough sleep is super important but so is getting quality sleep. Additionally, blue light exposure (such...

    I've Read The Millionaire Fastlane!

    GOLD! HOT!
I read TMF after reading Unscripted, and I think that was the order I personally needed to hear them in. Unscripted changed a lot of my viewpoints on money and value (as well as the person I need to become), and as such I feel like I was able to appreciate and understand the business and...
