Question: Validity of a SMMA in 2024

    SLOWLANE SOCIAL MEDIA FEEDBACK
I'm a social media type and you've pretty much nailed it. I started off specialising in Facebook/Meta ads and took it from there. And yes, yes, yes to this: - "Most SMMA agencies are simply creating mid or low-grade ads en masse." - 100% I'm still even now surprised at the number of people...

Marketing agency For local beauty businesses

    MARKETING
I used to work with the beauty industry a few years ago (pre-lockdown). The reason I stopped is because a) most high street and independent therapists don't have that much disposable to spend on marketing; b) they are mostly quite creative people who can easily do their own Instagram, plug and...

How does a culture survive when a whole generation refuses to work?

    MINDSET
Just to clarify, I do completely agree that some jobs work just fine remotely! I think my issue with this one is more particular to the UK/Europe. WFH has become entrenched and it's just not practical for a lot of jobs, hence everything (literally everything!) seems to have a backlog right now...

How does a culture survive when a whole generation refuses to work?

    MINDSET
But not everyone works in an office, do they? Some jobs are just not suited to WFH. Example: doctors' surgeries - getting an appointment to see your doctor is a real problem here right now. It's partly because most of them are working flexi-hours by right. Same with schools. Until last year, my...

How does a culture survive when a whole generation refuses to work?

    MINDSET
Yes, very much so. Everyone seems to have 'anxiety', 'depression', 'stress', or a general 'mental health issue' which they need time off for. Even in government, one of our senior MPs (Dominic Raab) was accused of "bullying" his (very well paid) staff when he asked them a question they should...

Businesses You Should Avoid And Why

    FEEDBACK
I've never heard of (10) before! I can imagine it's a thing though. Agree with (2) - particularly the second sentence.

How does a culture survive when a whole generation refuses to work?

    MINDSET
I've been talking about this lately. Here in the UK it seems like working from home/flexi-working has become a human right, plus endless time off for what used to be perfectly normal life occurrences: pets dying, women's things, male partners supporting women with women's things etc etc. It does...

    TikTok vs. Instagram

    MARKETING
From a marketing point of view we use IG to build the brand and TT to build community. TT is a HARD one to create good business content for. Trust me, I've spent months analysing different accounts and geeking over numbers! The brands that are killing it (Ryan Air here in the UK is one) tend to...

"The 50th Law" by 50 Cent and Robert Greene

    BOOKS
I read this and quite enjoyed it! Interested in the description from Fiddy about the day to day mechanics of being a street dealer. Realised how entrepreneurial a lot of these guys must be. With a different start in life etc.

Random Chat, Thoughts, Posts, and/or Rants Thread

    HOT! CHAT
Oh I do this all the time! People recoil back in horror when I tell them. But, FB's algo is far cleverer than I am. It works out who's clicking and does its thing. Works brilliantly.

How to proceed when prospects say they are not interested

    QUESTION
True that. My first sales manager taught me, "some will, some won't, so what, NEXT!" I still keep it mind now 20 years on when I get a knock-back.

Small business requirements - lead generation

    IDEA
@Wouter is correct in that you are generalising massively. I think what you really mean is that tradesmen probably don't need marketing right now. Other small businesses almost certainly do. The real problem with small businesses is that ... they're small! I'm a marketer specialising in lead...

Any shopify expert, i need some advice please

    MARKETING
The first thing to do is to ask a friend to go to your shop and try and buy something. Your figures are high and the first thing I would be thinking is that it's a tech problem with your cart.

I didn't know that it was banned in some prisons! Interesting. And yes, very good book.

That's true too. Also seems to be a heck of a lot of American women ruminating over the British royal family.

Im my experience, it's a lot of effort for not much return. I don't know anyone who's found it a brilliant marketing channel. Gets quite argumentative as well!

    Why Influencer Marketing doesn't work

    MARKETING
This! Every time! This is one of the first things I say to anyone looking for influencer reach-out. The influencer has built a following by knowing their audience. Let them work out how best to promote your product and don't interfere (within reason). The other really common mistake I see is...
