Random Chat, Thoughts, Posts, and/or Rants Thread

    HOT! CHAT
I'm definitely opening myself on getting roasted, but I've done overemployment for 3 years and it finally happened that I lost all my jobs from back to back layoffs. In the end, a job is still a job and you're still putting faith in a system that could axe you at any given moment. I don't...

    Breaking My Phone Addiction

    MINDSET
I'm in a similar boat and started reading How to Break Up with Your Phone by Catherine Price. A lot of it drives home to what's mentioned in the thread but she also provides studies on how checking your phone a million times a day changes your brain chemistry. It's a quick read and I already...

What am I looking for? Accountant? CPA? Finance person?

    TAXES | REGS
Depending on how many transactions you have, you can reconcile your accounts quarterly. Don't forget to put anything that isn't related to your business as Owners Draw, your CPA will thank you. Also, setup some bank feeds on QuickBooks Online (or Desktop) if you haven't already. Make some rules...

    The Broke Accountant

    INTRO
Yeah it's always in the front of my mind. I took a break for a while to get my finances in order and now I'm back in the swing of things. I went from poverty wages to making middle class wages in less than 2 years and debt free. Granted it's slowlane, but I learned a lot and it's just a means to...

    The Broke Accountant

    INTRO
How are you my friend? I'm also a bookkeeper in the US and after working in public, I don't want to be an accountant just because of the lack of work-life balance and the garbage pay unless you're on the partner path or a controller in industry. However, you definitely have a lot to offer. If...

Bookkeeping or Coding to reach my goal.

    SIDE HUSTLE
Bookkeeper here. the best way to get your feet wet is through public accounting. They're always looking for bodies to help out with busy season and you'll learn a lot with working with multiple industries. I wouldn't stay there for more than a year though because busy season basically kills any...

Officially Debt Free, Where do I Start?

    INVESTING MINDSET
This is very helpful, thank you everyone! I had a feeling that $82k wasn't going to get me very far at the moment, but your opinions help put things into perspective. I'm always investing in myself thankfully. My slowlane job is a means to an end and if anything, the last 3 years have shown me...

Officially Debt Free, Where do I Start?

    INVESTING MINDSET
Hi guys, I hope that you're doing well! I'm sure this has been posted ad nauseum but the more I look into this, I'm the more choice paralysis I'm going through on what to do. I'm fortunate to be in a position where I paid off all my student loans, live with family, and I'm very liquid ($82k in...

ChatGPT AI is a huge breakthrough, a Google killer

    HOT! CHAT
I did consider that, but it was a basic algebra problem. Sometimes it does go off the rails when I don't ask it math questions, so these days I treat it like a 14 year old with ADHD.

ChatGPT AI is a huge breakthrough, a Google killer

    HOT! CHAT
Anyone noticed that GPT-4 has gotten dumber? The speed has improved, but I had to correct it's math when I was trying to calculate some sales tax today.

Is programming a worthwhile skill to learn for entrepreneurship?

    INTRO
I think it helps if you're already an expert in your field, because AI is definitely not ready to replace certain industries. Even as a bookkeeper, I still have to occasionally correct ChatGPT on how to code certain accounts and some journal entries. I see it as a good compliment and a good...

Has anyone checked out Threads yet? Edit: I just checked it out and it's a very clean UI and not too distracting compared to Twitter. It's still in beta, but it looks promising!

Has anyone consulted a psychic? (Feel free to laugh)

    INTRO
Not a psychic but I have consulted with an astrologer and self study and you can find extremely specific stuff depending on your aspects. Astrology itself is a good road map, but it should never be treated as gospel. In the end, only you can execute what needs to be done and how to work with...

Looking for Numbers/Accounting Software for Service Businesses

    SAAS / APPS
You could also filter the profits/expenses by customer or vendor. From my experience, it's easier to do it on QuickBooks Desktop versus QBO, but otherwise you would have to make multiple chart of accounts and put a bunch of memos, classes, and then filter by that, and then you get your result.

To turn from accountant to entrepreneur

    INTRO
A lot of places I've interviewed in the past who ran something similar worked in finance for many years or they went into accounting but didn't make the cut to get their CPA (though they do have CPAs on staff.) The woman I trained under only had some bookkeeping certification from...

To turn from accountant to entrepreneur

    INTRO
If you're in private and depending on the industry, you got some wiggle room on what you can do for Fastlane pursuits, especially now that tax season is over. Are you planning to take your CPA? You can open your own firm, but you won't see the results for a while (and it's a huge time sink if...

Should I learn accounting before building a business & how should I familiarize myself in my new community.

    EXECUTION CHAT QUESTION
A little late on the thread, it's helpful if you care about what's going on with your Profit Loss and Balance Sheet, but not required. As long as you know how to categorize your transactions and everything is current so you don't have to panic at tax season. I currently do bookkeeping as my day...

Building a Sales Team with Zero Experience

    MARKETING
Following this thread! I'm in a similar boat as you are because while I'm great at doing backend work, I feel that I'm a liability on the front end of things in terms of running a business. Have you already achieved some sales on your own and developed your own scripts/process for potential...
