What I’ve learned so far looking for business ideas

    IDEA MINDSET
Congrats on quitting all together - that's tough to do and a huge step. I'm a Dentist and in a similar boat. I think when you've been focused for so long on getting into law school, law school itself, and then starting your career and growing in it - it's hard to imagine doing anything else -...

Physician to writer to entrepreneur & halfway there

    INTRO
Completely agree Dustin - I listen to a podcast by an entrepreneur from Austin named Mike Dillard, and he once said that the definition of an entrepreneur is a professional problem solver. Docs have this innate ability to solve complex problems but your list is a very good synopsis as to why...

Thanks for the response MJ! Wow Howard Farran was your Dentist? He started Dentaltown and if he is still practicing it's only because he wants to, not because he has to! My wife is just starting Unscripted but because I talk about it all the time it's almost like she has had the clif notes...

For change to occur you have to have the need, and you have to have the confidence. I think most Docs have neither in enough abundance to take that leap. Older Docs I know who have tried to branch out and do something else, the second things became tough they crawled back into their comfort zone...

Thanks for the 100! - can I have it British sterling instead of US Dollars? ;) I do think we're on the same page - it's 100% the person and not the degree. I know for me, I had to teach myself the business end of things out of necessity, and that's when I discovered there can actually be more...

Physician to writer to entrepreneur & halfway there

    INTRO
@Chromozone - I have to disagree. The people who are at the top in the medical world are not the Drs. From a business standpoint, Drs. are just cogs in the machine dominated by the insurance companies, the pharmaceutical companies, the supply companies, and the corporations who are buying up...

@Saavik - you saw my intro but I'm completely in the same boat. And what's tough is that the mainstream, the public look up to you in a way - because for most stuck in the rat race, you're doing it better than they are! You went to more school you have a "more stable career," you make more...

Thanks @LuckyPup and @Saavik for the replies. I agree all of the medically based professions are in a tough spot. What pisses me off more than anything is how much the cost of education has risen since I've been out. I didn't graduate THAT long ago (15 years) and average debt coming out of...

    I've Read UNSCRIPTED!

    GOLD! HOT!
I have read Unscripted twice and I am almost done with TMF. There's just so much great info in both it's impossible to narrow it down. But most importantly MJ has brought to light that in my current profession and on the path I am on, the best I will ever be is a well compensated hourly...

    INTRO
Hi Everyone! MY name is Zack and this is my intro. I am a Dentist and I have owned my practice out right for about 5 years now (was a partner in it for 6 years prior then bought my partner out). I am married with 2 young boys ages 10 and 5. So when I officially took over the reigns of the...
