Why haven't any competitors to Coke/Pepsi ever arisen?

Check out the "How I Built This" podcast episode interviewing the founder of Spindrift sparkling water (they also had soda products at one point). Beverage development and marketing isn't what I would call "fairly easy", haha. The podcast also has an episode with the founder of Honest Tea if you...

Business Ideas for the (emerging) stay-at-home Economy?

    HOT! IDEA
I generally assume that either cost or the "not good with technology" aspect are what stop older people from taking advantage of the grocery-delivery services that exist. You say "a service like Uber", but that's still an app. Would you envision customers ordering services via phone call, then...

Business Ideas for the (emerging) stay-at-home Economy?

    HOT! IDEA
Just discovered this recently, myself. I had used remote desktop to work from home before, but never tried to use conference call with webcam. Was disappointed that I could not show my colleagues my adorable cats. Wasn't disappointed for long, though...I just exited remote and logged into Zoom...

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

I agree with this, but it is also a somewhat scary notion for someone who has struggled with depression for ~15 years. You start to worry that you just aren't capable of generating those kinds of feelings internally. I'm doing pretty well with medication and exercise at the moment, but my basic...

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

Spot on. Yep. I've done mood-tracking exercises in the past and my day ratings were typically 4-6. Another one is freedom to contribute where I wish, I think. For example, maybe I would like to spend some time doing basic data analysis for a volunteer group who can't afford an analyst. That...

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

I agree haha. I recently read a book called "The 1% Rule" by Tommy Baker which said that the number one thing that keeps people going is progress, or even the illusion of progress. Feelings of progress and positive feedback can be hard to come by in the research world, for sure. The part of my...

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

For one example, I've gotten good at designing projects in an electronic data capture tool that is pretty much just used by universities or similar non-profit research organizations. This is useful, but the learning curve for it really isn't that bad, so I doubt anyone would want to pay me to...

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

Questions that I spent a lot of time and research trying to answer. I really dislike the "passion" narrative we have going on these days, because I don't think I've ever had one. I liked the idea from MJ's books that you can be passionate about building something, without the "something" itself...

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

Well, that's intense, haha. I saw your post saying you were homeschooled; I actually was also. Not for cult-related reasons, though. My mom just sort of...thought it seemed like a good idea. :p My parents have always done a lot by default rather than by design. They had no idea how to advise me...

    I've Read The Millionaire Fastlane!

    GOLD! HOT!
Found Unscripted first, but then went looking for MFL. Listened to both a couple of times on audio.

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

Precisely. A lot of people would love to throw the massive "F*ck you" to their employer. I don't have any desire to do that, but I sure would like to leave the little office box and not go back. My coworkers are mostly kind, helpful, decent people, but I don't want to hear "Happy Monday" or...

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

I have taken a couple of classes, but overall, I think I am just tired of sitting in a classroom and sort of "waiting" to be something. Six years of college classroom learning got me where I am now. Maybe just getting out there in the crash course will go somewhere better.

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

Yes, personal freedom. If I didn't "need" the job, I could even help them out on certain things just because I want to, without the expectation that I also do ~8 hours of a$$-time in my office chair.

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

Definitely the direction I want to go in (something more valuable). I know I contribute to the group overall and feel a certain sense of guilt about wanting to leave. However, it's not like another person couldn't do my job. There's a significant learning curve because the research group is so...

Want to hear from some others who are conflicted about hating work

A lot of things I read about work and jobs speak as though everyone works in some kind of corporate business environment. When I've looked for advice on how to ask for a raise or improve my resume, it always seems to fit well for business or sales...but not the environment I'm in. MJ's books...

'Parasite' won the Oscar for "Best Picture." I couldn't be more disgusted.

    HOT!
Definitely liked this about it, and am subsequently surprised it was awarded an Oscar. It had that Korean/Japanese movie vibe of "everything is fine and NOW EVERYTHING GOES OFF A CLIFF". I didn't really realize until now that this was one of my favorite aspects, haha. By the end, quite the...

What book are you reading? Right now. Post up!

    NOTABLE! HOT! BOOKS CHAT
Crushing It! - Gary Vaynerchuk (audio): Trying to be open-minded on this one, but actually trying to become a "social media influencer" still strikes me as a shallow goal and an unpleasant life. I don't want to tell a bunch of people on the Internet what I am doing every day...but I'm pretty...

The Blind Men and the Elephant (why you are wrong)

    NOTABLE! MINDSET
I’ve heard variants of the blind men/elephant story, but not seen it in poem form! That’s great.

Author spent 5 years interviewing 177 selfmade millionaires to find their secrets. Findings inside.

    MINDSET FEATURED!
I thought something similar at first. Then I figured that means they use the services of a CPA, not that they personally have the credential.

10 Months into Food Truck App - Graze

Tried zooming in and out, but I still don't see anything. And I know for a fact that there's an area right down the road from me where a bunch of food trucks post up at this time of day.
