In terms of limiting beliefs, there is not only the issue of what you can HAVE but also what you can DO. Personal sovereignty. I used to drink alcohol on a more than regular basis, none at all for the past 3 months. When people ask me about it, most often they say "I could never do that."...

I'm 29 Years Old With Nearly $1,000,000 In Debt!

    RANT
I have a MBA and it was a great experience. I learned a lot and many of my professors were successful in business themselves. I met high achievers and it definitely gave me confidence in terms of being able to compete with the big dogs. It also humbled me and taught me I didn't know as much as...

Have you considered paying your mom for your portion of rent, food, electricity, etc.? If not, why not? And it doesn't matter if she's independently wealthy or hasn't asked you to help. Do it anyway.

Investing in Tax Liens via auction, anyone participate?

    TAXES | REGS
I learned yesterday that our lawyer uncovered the details of the farm we bought. Evidently the Executor (older sibling) has been pocketing the rent moneys over the years and not paying taxes while the younger sibling who actually stands to inherit the property is none the wiser. Amazing what...

Investing in Tax Liens via auction, anyone participate?

    TAXES | REGS
We just won a bid on some adjacent farm ground we hope the owners don't pay up on. It was interesting to talk to the bidders. Most of them were proxy bidders for investors all over the country. Many had a niche as far as the type of properties they bid on. The process was very clean, all the...

A HUGE Fastlane opportunity for food/commodity entrepreneurs

Great post. Definitely need to do some research since I'm already in the Ag space.

If you develop good SOP's with a focus on bio-security, you could probably scale up quickly. Good luck!

Are you dealing with the integrator (owner of the animals) or the individual growers? I'm guessing you can probably get a lot of business if you get a recommendation from the integrator.

Typically larger operations hire out the pumping of their pits or have a separate business division that does it. On smaller farms that are not intensive (like mine), we do it ourselves.

Are you knifing the manure in the ground with a custom applicator as well or just spreading it?

As someone who has spread a lot of shit (literally) in my life and am very familiar with this industry, there is definitely opportunity here.

Parents, please post your responsibility ideas

    IDEA PEOPLE
I once heard a psychology professor say she considered self-efficacy much more important than self-esteem as a focus when raising children. Having two young adults myself, I have to say I have a hard time arguing with that perspective.

I started to do some research with past experiences with lamb from Facebook followers on our business page. Will probably do some giveaways in exchange for honest reviews. Time to get off my butt. Bought a few lambs on Sunday that we will put on good hay and resell in a couple months. Had to...

Well, we just bought a 165 acre farm adjacent to ours that went up for tax sale. Property has to sit for a year to give the owners the opportunity to pay the back taxes along with interest to us. We have been eyeing this property for 4 generations, offered to buy it in the past on multiple...

Good day on the farm today. 10 new lambs waiting for me when I got home. Early fall is technically out of season, but the genetics I have selected the past two years for out of season breeding is showing results. Having out of season lambs allows me to have more steady product available and to...

    Pro-Tip: Ignore your Slowlane Parents

    MINDSET SLOWLANE RANT
As a dad, I'm currently trying to get my 18 year old son off his butt and out into the workforce. I don't have a "slowlane" mentality, but I want him to have a skillset and experience before he even thinks about a business (which I don't know that he will). I reached out to someone in our...

Great post, @MidwestLandlord. I'm looking at transitioning in my day job to a more direct sales role. Is there any material out there beside the books you mentioned you would recommend in terms of cold-calling? I'm not afraid of public speaking, but cold calls I have always struggled a bit with...

Think Big, and Then Think Bigger Than That.

    GOLD!
Control on the sales side is definitely an issue in my mind right now. I sell a lot more on the open market than I would like to, which has been down recently. Direct sales is going to be the path forward and my next big challenge. Many producers sell direct off the farm and skirt regulations...

Thanks, @amp0193. I think I've mentioned it, but I wouldn't have found this forum if you hadn't recommended MFL on another forum. @MTEE1985, there are definitely lessons to be learned from the dairy industry right now. Milk prices have been depressed the past couple years and small dairy farms...
