What Are Your Big Plans For 2018?

    HOT!
I'm keeping it relatively simple under two main goals: 1. Focus on my health. 2. Focus on my business. Sorry for the lack of specificity but those are my major areas of concern for 2018.

    I've Read UNSCRIPTED!

    GOLD! HOT!
I finished reading it a few months ago and left a review on amazon. Thanks for writing it. MJ. If TMF is high school, Unscripted would be college - the kind of college you can't b.s. your way through and still expect to cross the stages with awards. I loved the hard truth. no bull tone of both...

Peta's Process - Illustrator from JamRock

    EXECUTION
Thanks, Claude! Yea, I can't imagine I'd ever have gotten this far without their help. I hope I can return the favour for her soon!

Peta's Process - Illustrator from JamRock

    EXECUTION
I ust want to take a moment to hail up the biggest resource I have at my disposal: supportive friends. Serious, my best friend who turned herself into a web developer over the past few years took time out of her sleep schedule to walk me through how to set up a store on my site. AND then she...

Own a Business? Answer Your Damn Phone

    NOTABLE! PEOPLE
Wow. So I came here to ask where and how you'd go about learning customer service skills apart from having good manners and home training, and I learned "Answer your flipping phone!". It's common sense but that isn't all that common. I could recount my own cruddy experiences but I'd rather...

Peta's Process - Illustrator from JamRock

    EXECUTION
Hi again! I haven't been around the forum in over a year but that doesn't mean that I haven't been doing anything at all. I have been inching along, albeit slowly due to my work-related health issues (see last post), but I can make a quick summary of all that's gone down since then...

What's your job ? What do you do?

    HOT!
    1. Not by a long shot. I turned 33 in August. 2. I know exactly how you feel. I've learned so much in my 30s that I wish I had access to in my teens and 20s, but better late than never. :) At least we're doing something about our situation now.

Peta's Process - Illustrator from JamRock

    EXECUTION
Good day, gentle people. I've been absent for a very long time and, to cut a long story short, I got terribly injured within my neck and shoulder/upper back within the first two weeks of my new animation studio job last August and the pain left me able to do little but go to work and come home...

Idea for a website? Want to learn how code? look here first!

    IDEA
As for me, I'm using Wordpress and I put my own code and design aside for a ready-made premium gallery theme that does what I want and is responsive to boot. I haven't had use of my desktop for much of November due to it throwing tantrums, so I'm a bit behind schedule but still aiming for an...

Idea for a website? Want to learn how code? look here first!

    IDEA
Hmm, I wish I knew. I've been lucky to have been surrounded by designers and coders since I left high school, so getting help or a referral is no issue for me. The only thing I can currently think of is to try a site like People Per Hour or Upwork (formerly Odesk) and search for website...

What's your job ? What do you do?

    HOT!
UPDATE: I start work at the animation studio on Monday. Will keep freelancing and fastlaning when time permits, even if I have to pry even half an hour out of the day.

What's your job ? What do you do?

    HOT!
Slight update: Didn't get that job, but had interviews at an ad agency last Friday and a small animation studio this afternoon. Still freelancing in the mean while, and working on that fastlane rocketship.

What's your job ? What do you do?

    HOT!
How did I miss this thread? I've been freelancing as an illustrator, with a tad of graphic design, since I left school in 2012. While that's been great, it's also been full of drought periods and more medical emergencies than I'd like. Tomorrow, I have an interview for a full-time position at...

Retirement: Slow-Lane Methods, or Fastlane Big Time?

I feel like I ought to be passing the collection plate, @H. Palmer. Thanks again! I got more than I expected from starting this thread.

Retirement: Slow-Lane Methods, or Fastlane Big Time?

Wow, a lot of gold in this comment. Thanks a ton! Speaking of 'financial education', are there any particular learning resources that you'd recommend?

Retirement: Slow-Lane Methods, or Fastlane Big Time?

Hmm. Either way, I'd have to do research at what's available locally before I just throw money at a broker. Thanks, MJ.

    Chronic Back Pain

Thanks, man. Well appreciated. Especially since I woke up this morning with the right side of my lower-back screaming.

Retirement: Slow-Lane Methods, or Fastlane Big Time?

It's so tiny, I barely have any overhead apart from utilities. I'm still shoring up the Day Job/Money Feeder situation, so things are rocky at the moment. Rocky, but I'm chugging along. Just that i found myself mentally looking at how my mother's life turned out retirement-wise and, I'm not...

Retirement: Slow-Lane Methods, or Fastlane Big Time?

Yea, I can see with this too. I see both the ups and downs, but I guess I can't shut the Girl Guides training off. "Be prepared". Aye-aye, Captain!

Retirement: Slow-Lane Methods, or Fastlane Big Time?

Ok, cool. I understand why that method makes sense in terms of Fastlane goals. Especially given the slippety-slide of the dollar, inflation would knock me on my tush before I'm eligible to draw from it in my 'retired' years. I should also keep adding money into an emergency fund, though, right?
