    SAAS / APPS EXECUTION
Hey dude good to see you are still plugging away. On developing Rails apps for clients - that could be a really good way to go in the interim while you work out what you want to build. I hit a kind of crisis point a few weeks ago, and had to fix cashflow ASAP. Given that I've been doing web...

Good shared calendar app where clients can login

Not sure if this is the right forum but couldn't find anywhere else it would make sense. A client is looking for a calendar app where her clients can login and add to-dos for her. A good addition would be them emailing tasks in and them appearing inside this system. She wants the clients to be...

If you're looking for more stuff for learning rails, Google "agile web development with rails 4". This is considered one of the best starting points by a lot of developers. Did a lot of research and talked to a bunch of devs who recommended it.

That's a pretty valid point. It's kind of pre-done market validation. That said, finding out what they like and don't like about what is already out there is important, so you can find a good point of differentiation

May as well aim big I guess. The foundation guys only look for around 5 pre sales. They can be between say 100-2000 each. Getting five people to pay money before the product exists is proof enough for me. Wow that's interesting... maybe I should aim bigger too :D And dude, that is AWESOME...

Freelancer vs Firm for MVP Development

    WEB/DIGITAL
Absolutely. That's why I've been asking for estimates and throwing out the ones that are way too high. It's hard to know till you get started though. What ari_ari suggested - getting them to write a small chunk first - might give you a good indication Nice, good luck. That seems odd. Most...

Freelancer vs Firm for MVP Development

    WEB/DIGITAL
Thanks to a pre-sale backing out, I've decided to get a few more pre sales before I proceed. However still talking to devs. What I've seen so far: Philippines doesn't seem to have many Rails devs. The ones I did find were pretty expensive @ around $50USD / hr Indonesia has a few, mostly...

I'm in two minds about this. Thousands in pre-sales is going to take MONTHS, depending on the industry and how much they are going to fork out. That's months you could have used developing and marketing the software that actually exists. I just want a few pre sales worth like $500. That's plenty...

Freelancer vs Firm for MVP Development

Cheers. Actually read through your thread a week or two ago. Have you found someone to do the work now that is working out for you?

Freelancer vs Firm for MVP Development

    WEB/DIGITAL
That's interesting. Throwing the code away sounds awful to be honest. Is it always going to be like that though? There still are great devs on freelance websites. This would be ideal I think, but the budget can almost double. Guess that is the trade off For sure. I don't even know if the...

Hey mate. Great thread. You inspired me to get back on the calls. I was almost ready to go to development on 1 pre-sale because I hate the calls so much. But these last two days have been great. Thanks for that :D It's funny, I'm attacking a very similar industry and just like you have noticed...

Freelancer vs Firm for MVP Development

    WEB/DIGITAL
It's a ground up app, except for using a bootstrap theme so the CSS doesn't have to be built from scratch. As far as budget goes, we can afford a firm but it just increases the risk if the app doesn't work out. Paying around half the price to work with a freelance developer means that it isn't...

Have any of you been at this decision point before? Which was did you go and why? We're looking for Rails devs in particular. I've talked to about 8 firms and 3 freelancers, all with their own pros and cons. These have been in the usual places - Eastern Europe, Philippines, Indonesia and India...

    Jumping the gun on development?

    WEB/DIGITAL
Kinda feeling that way as well. I'm thinking initial dev 5-10k and monthly cost with packages $20-100/mth in the beginning depending on number of staff. The 3 that are keen would be $60/mth

Have a SaaS Idea? Is it worth it? I'll tell you...

    IDEA SAAS / APPS
Very true. With many of the smaller businesses the pain is not really there (really obvious when talking to them about it), but once they are managing a few employees they end up wasting a LOT of time managing everything. Some that I've talked to absolutely hate it (words like "nightmate" have...

The next suggestion would have been a transcription service or VA, but if it's too sensitive that won't work

    Jumping the gun on development?

    WEB/DIGITAL
Ah yeah should have mentioned that! Yep enough capital to develop it from my other software business. Even though we can afford it already, after to listening to all the Dane Maxwell and Paul Clifford stuff part of me is hell bent on getting 5-10 paying customers before I even start...

    Voice to text app

    WEB/DIGITAL
Cheers mate :) It's not something I've done, but these guys provided three options for developers. The Windows one uses the Microsoft Speech API which is almost guaranteed to suck -> http://stackoverflow.com/questions/491578/how-do-i-convert-speech-to-text This guy talks about using VoiceMate...

    Jumping the gun on development?

    WEB/DIGITAL
When you are in the pre-selling stage for a new software product, when is it time to actually hire a developer? Is one paying customer enough? My situation: After talking to maybe 10 businesses, 3 had indicated they were ready to put money down. One of these actually has and is really excited...
