Another quick update. Since my last post I have: *Taken COSenior's advice and checked out the covers of the top performers in my genre and let it guide me. I ended up making a new one via Bigstock. That was a good lesson to learn. * Published the second book in the series * Contacted a handful...

Here's another site that's come in handy for me: http://750words.com/ I've been using it for a while but for some reason it didn't occur to me to post it until today. This probably won't help you in any practical way, like give you a template or provide advice, but I've found that it helps me...

Short Update Actions taken since my last post: * Finished second (and some) draft of the second book * Bought a cover - more on that in a second * Found a beta reader on GR; for some reason I am SUPER NERVOUS about this. I've had my writing torn apart by people I grew up reading and admiring...

For anyone working to build their book descriptions, I think this site is a helpful little idea-template. It gets right to the point: http://marilynnbyerly.com/blurb.html#Condensingblurb I don't know about anyone else, but I've always had trouble with things like loglines and blurbs.

How bad do you want it? Enough to go "all in?"

    GOLD! PEOPLE
Wow, seeing this post blew my mind - as I was leaving the house this morning I thought about how grateful I am for my current place. Granted, my move wasn't as drastic as many of yours (about two cities over), but it changed literally everything from my weight to my mindset. It showed me who my...

Thanks for the link! I really liked #19 - Coincidences to get characters into trouble are great; coincidences to get them out of it are cheating. Lots of food for thought on that page in general though.

The biggest lie that you believed for most of your life?

    NOTABLE! MINDSET
Gosh, so many. It's difficult to choose the biggest one, but the most harmful for me have been: * That I was born to be poor, uneducated, and that the highlight of my life would be my wedding day. * That "safety and security" meant a corporate or government job * That starting my own business...

BookBub.com looks awesome! But, the 50k word minimum will keep a few of us out, at least for a little while. I'm looking forward to trying with them when the time comes. I've only started looking into resources for independent authors, so I don't have much to contribute as yet, but I'll be...

Compiling with Scrivener on PC? Help.

    PUBLISHING
Scrivener for PC is still super buggy, but Scrivener for Dummiesby Gwen Hernandez covers both PC and mac. I use a mac, but have been tangled up in all kinds of Scrivener formatting problems, so I wonder if I would be any help to you. Are you compiling to print or to export as an ebook? I...

Thank you! I totally agree with this. I've worked with other writers on a variety of projects and one thing I've learned is that giving writing advice is a bit like giving parenting advice: it can be extremely useful, but will often sail right over a person's head when unsolicited. :)...

lol, thanks! I am actually taking a break from the home stretch on the first draft of the second book at the moment. I'm aiming for 20k words, and have about 3k left to go. In my first post I said that "the week" of 10/07 was my goal, so it looks like I will just make it :D When that's done...

    I'm finally joining the crowd!

I think this is great advice; I wanted to do the same thing when I published my ebook, but soon realized that I was getting ahead of myself. Once I have a few titles going and have done the research on what's selling (or not), I'll look into print books. Great blurb! Sounds like an intriguing...

Thanks! Before I started writing, I outlined all three books with broad strokes, but only one is totally completed and up on Amazon. It went live yesterday morning, and I haven't sold any yet. The second book is outlined down to the chapters; I have about a third of the first draft written...

My apologies if this will end up being a wall of text! My hope is that someone will get something out of it. Actions Taken: * Used Held For Ransom’s tool + several hours on Amazon to determine popular fiction genres * Deduced that serial erotic romance, mystery, and post-apocalyptic/sci-fi...

The fact that MJ extended the offer, plus the rational discussion (so far) about such an idea is an indication of how inclusive and diverse this forum is, which is huge reason why I love this place.

Understandable, especially when considering search engine results. However, from what I understand about the Insider's Forum, those threads aren't indexed, so you'll be a bit safer from unscrupulous eyes if you want specific advice on your product. Good luck!
