Your worst entrepreneurial failure... details please!

    NOTABLE!
I have more stories than I care to admit, but ~15 years ago I tried to start a book review business. The idea was to provide book reviews for free, and charge a fee for an expedited review and distribution. The fee was something like $100 or $200, can't remember exactly, but it filled a need in...

    What Do Productive People Do?

    HOT! MINDSET
I use a notebook and pen. You can use a pen and paper, or a similar electronic note taking tool, but the goal is to simply capture things as they come to you, so that you can revisit them later. This lets you not miss any great ideas, notes to yourself, reminders, commitments, etc., yet not jump...

Can I criticize (or hate) a book I haven't read entirely?

    BOOKS
IMO, whether a book sucks or not is completely relevant to you. How you react to a book changes based on where you're at in life. There are many things that were boring and tedious years ago, that I can completely relate to and learn from today. Or that I just couldn't get my head around when...

Starting first business- a drive thru!

    EXECUTION
Great idea. When I was young with four small children in the car, my favorite place in the world was a drive through convenience store. I drove in, got Mt Dew, cigarettes and snacks for the kids, then went about my day. Never had to leave the kids alone or drag them into the tiny store and make...

What will you accomplish in 2019?

    EXECUTION
In 2017, I checked out and drifted a bit (personal tragedy). In 2018, I started coming out of my shell (standing back up). In 2019, I'm moving forward. - $1000/mo minimum of royalty income. - Minimum of 3 product photo shoots per week. - Buy a Class C RV. - Go on a freaking date :)

Building a SaaS based on Wordpress?

    HOT! SAAS / APPS
FWIW, Something that runs *on* WP is different than something that works *with* WP. With that said, I'd strongly advise you to NOT run on WP. In FL speak, you'd risk too much control. I've made a lot of misc. little scripts, apps, and web-based tools over the years. Several were specifically...

    Ecommerce Profit Margins?

As someone else said, it generally boils down to a personal choice and/or business model. Some operate on slim margins (usually paired with high volume) while others don't. FWIW, I don't buy something to sell unless I'm fairly confident I can earn equal to or greater than that cost back in full...

Writing a SLAVE off as a "Learning Experience". Suggestions?

As you progress, learn to stop thinking in terms of $ per hour. When you freelance or run a business, you earn money based on worth and return. Knowledge, skill and deliverables determine your pay, not time. --Kathy

How do I keep my employer from claiming ownership of my business?

I've seen this too often even in freelance contracts over the years. Read everything you signed, including employee handbooks. Look for intellectual property clauses, non compete clauses, and moonlighting clauses. IANAL and good luck :)
