    Business Idea

    IDEA
I think the general ideal is good. However, a lot of the charitable dogs homes in the UK do something similar. They basically need people to walk there dogs so offer this service. One thing to consider is that dog ownership comes with a host of liabilities that you will need to consider- litter...

Create a start-up while employed? or focus resources on start-up?

    EXECUTION
If you can afford not to work a normal job then don't. If you need the cash to support yourself and family then unfortunately you must. However, you then need to be disciplined about using your time constructively. This my biggest issue, I had a slow lane mind-set for many years and have built...

Which job should I have in order to create my fastlane?

    EXECUTION
I agree that sales can give you incredible exposure within an industry and puts you at the sharp end of revenue. However, this can come at a risk if you work for someone else. I worked in a number of organisation where the slightest dip in sales performance and you are shown the door. Sales is...

    Patents and China

    HOT!
The weight can be an issue. Depends on the product. Density is often a bigger concern. It can be cheaper to ship finished steel than the raw materials (iron ore, coke etc) as these include a large % of waste. The Canadian steel industry has really taken a hit recently with a couple of firms...

    Patents and China

    HOT!
Leo, this entire thread is becoming one big circular argument. You are clearly so concerned about potential patent infringement that you will not even start the process necessary to build your business irrespective of the comments made by others. Your product and business skill might be rubbish...

    I NEED AN IDEA!

    IDEA
As newbie myself the key take away that I take it is that the idea does not have to be perfect or grandiose. I have certainly spent far to only trying to identify the perfect idea and used this as an excuse to not execute. It is only when you start to execute, to undertake process, that you...

I agree, create value first. Work the process. There is always some trying to rip you off in one form or another.

    Patents and China

    HOT!
Its my slow lane career. I am a metallurgist and work in the steel industry supply chain. I therefore deal with buyers and engineers in steel industry daily. Much of this information is gained from experience. I also have a doctoral degree in steel manufacturing and therefore am familiar with...

    Patents and China

    HOT!
Oh ok. It unfortunately not as simple as on country supplier out performing another. If you addressed the economic viability of the manufacturers themselves they would likely all be considered disastrous. It is only state funding in china that is stopping the bankruptcies seen elsewhere. If you...

    Patents and China

    HOT!
Though i agree with some of your points i respectfully disagree with you on many. For example the South African steel industry is hamstrung by poor electrical supplies, the Russian steel industry is limited by a massively corrupt government, Mexico has union issues. I know because i am involved...

    Patents and China

    HOT!
The Chinese have certainly been known to copy intellectual property and there is limited opportunity to address this. However, this only plays a small role in why they can produce at a lower cost than the west. Subsidised utilised, extended debt facilities, lower labour rates, scale- numerous...

    Patents and China

    HOT!
Hello and Welcome. I don't like to generalise but from my personal experience they do not respect international patent law- though this is gradually changing as they are becoming more integrated in global trade deals. However, you have touched on a particularly interesting subject. The western...

How did you find your industry??

    HOT!
There are a multitude of different areas to consider with a given industry. I can claim a degree of technical expertise in my chosen field, but this doesn't even begin to touch on all the other relevant fields (logistics, HR, finance etc). An alternative approach would be to consider a product...

Opinions on unmanned aerial flight systems (drones) and their development

Saw something relevant on the techcrunch site today. A company has a received a chunk of funding for a gadget that detects drones entering the local vicinity - value in anti-drone tech as well! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Opinions on unmanned aerial flight systems (drones) and their development

Heres another one- security. CCTV camera are standard these days in the UK and are often a pre-requisite for insurance. However they are limited. A self-guided drone that could respond to pir or other alarm would be useful. The hardwares there but would need the software. Sent from my iPhone...

Opinions on unmanned aerial flight systems (drones) and their development

One consideration is as the law develops there will inevitably be more conflicts. A black box recorder specifically for drones would be useful as the flight data (height altitude etc) recorded in a secure format would evidence in the dispute. no idea if one exists but it would be of use.

Opinions on unmanned aerial flight systems (drones) and their development

Definitely an expanding market but the legislation will negotiable change as the law catches up with technology. Unless you are experienced with the design and build of this sort of kit I would go the 20 k route. However, first I would consider hiring a 20K unit either to test or to use on a job.

    How to get people interested?

    MARKETING
Have had a similar dilemma though in a very different niche. My strategy has been to contact key influencers in the target demographic- go for quality rather than quantity. Provide them with value so that they engage with you on some level and you might then get others following. Who is you...

    Critique Execution of Business Idea

    IDEA
When you buy a video game on the high street can you legal rent it out with permission? Copyright and licensing can feel very restrictive so worth checking. I would looking at the retro market- quite popular in some demographics.
