The Rule of Persistence: How Many Millions Would You Pay for 10 Years?

    MINDSET NEWSLETTER
Well done @MJ DeMarco !! I’d add one more thing, for some people the hard part is reducing chronic stress. I know people who are thin yet look wrecked because they live in constant tension, and never switch off. Workouts and nutrition matter, obviously, but so does low overall stress (not...

‘I Live to Work’: MrBeast Admits His Work-Life Balance Isn’t ‘Healthy’ — Here’s How He Built YouTube’s Biggest Audience

    NEWS
The price is that enough is never enough. The next video. The next crazy challenge. The next million subscribers. At some point the chase becomes its own prison. A mansion-style prison with every amenity. Chosen freely. Still a prison of the mind. No moral judgment. If that is the life he...

The Dark Forest, and Dead Internet Theory

    CHAT
I worked there. It is mostly not about hiding secrets. They are too busy executing. The formula is pretty simple: relentless A/B testing, constant iteration, and hard cost control. Simple, but hard to do. And yes, part of that cost control was moving a lot of functions out of the Netherlands to...

How is that marketing angle working out? Are clients actually reacting to the handcrafted human made angle, or do they care mainly about the end result once you have these conversations with them?

I've Read Choose Hard, Live Easy: The Art of War for Decision-Making!

    HOT! BOOKS
I finished the book and it’s excellent. There’s a lot to unpack. Today I applied the “solve the Monkey first” approach and it saved me a lot of time and frustration. Curious how others are applying this in practice. What’s one decision where this framework helped you?

Why SF rental properties are bad investments, and why Fastlane is the better alternative

    HOT! REAL ESTATE
Very good point. When you explain it like that, the move-up logic makes sense. I actually did something similar with my current house. Bought cheap, with low interest rate, fixed and improved a lot myself, and the value almost doubled. Still not Fastlane, but as a way to build equity while...

Why SF rental properties are bad investments, and why Fastlane is the better alternative

    HOT! REAL ESTATE
I hear this strategy repeated all the time, but it honestly sounds a bit idiotic to me. OK, you buy a place, fix it up, live there for two years, sell it… and then what? Where are you going to live next? In a van? Unless you already have another house that’s paid off, or you’re planning to...

Why SF rental properties are bad investments, and why Fastlane is the better alternative

    HOT! REAL ESTATE
About a year and a half ago I went down the same rabbit hole and seriously looked at using my capital for real estate or an Airbnb in a touristic area. Once I ran the numbers properly, including taxes, maintenance, management, and my own time, it looked like one of the worst uses of both money...

Building the house has become easier, despite the volatility I joke about. The hard part is still the same: validating that someone actually wants to buy the house. That has to come first. Everything else is secondary.

I like how the title reflects recent changes . It really showcases the volatility of this market. It also feels like building with these tools gives away too much control.

What is your Decisional Fallout Condition (DEFCON)?

    HOT! MINDSET
Not even. On average, it has more than doubled over the last 10 years. This is mostly due to immigration and population growth, lower interest rates in the past, and the Dutch tax system, which pushes people to buy homes.

    HOT! BOOKS
The book came a few weeks ago. Worth the pre-order, so for all the morons complaining, please stop. Very high signal-to-noise ratio, especially compared to the usual self-help junk out there. Hope this one cures me of chronic expectosis. I’ll definitely report back if it does, though I know it’s...

Did it a second time less score now I first misread Q23, so this is where my score stands now. These are the areas where I fall short. A tough standard, but a fair one. I believe if I get myself to launch the Offensive 90-Day War Game from the book things can improve.

I just read and abandoned half-way Turn the Ship Around! by David Marquet. I like the leader–leader model, but once it is explained the book goes into yapping mode, like much of today’s self-help content, with long examples about what he did. I also find attempts to apply military models to...

    The AI Software Apocalypse...

    HOT! - AI -
One thing that worries me about many AI startups is the commandment of CONTROL. In many cases the core intelligence still comes from an API call to companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. That means the foundation of the product sits on someone else infrastructure. Unless the company...
