    Buying Business and 401(k) Advice

I am currently looking at a couple of options, and figured I'd see if anyone here had experiences/advice they'd like to share. After recently quitting my job, I have the opportunity to roll my 401(k) in such a way that I can use the money to buy a business. Example-...

What should I say on a cold call to corporate controllers?

    MARKETING
I used to nicely let down cold callers, now I just instantly hang-up to save us both the time. Every business is different, so I might be missing the mark. If you don't have tons of prospects, you shouldn't be cold calling. You should be doing everything you can to make it a warm call before...

CENTS Commandments (or NECST) in Pictures

I like "CENTS" because I view fastlane as next level, but CENTS seems a more memorable/marketable acronym. Good stuff!

    The Education Monopoly... W.T.F?!!

    HOT!
I typed out what you quoted by request from another member...like I said before, it sounds like a "slowlane sales pitch".

I've been wondering if I should take some money and bet against housing again, plenty of ways to do it.

Unfortunately you really have to dig because what I'm saying here doesn't fit the populist narrative. Great graphic here, look at men and women separately in the graph- http://www.epi.org/blog/real-hourly-wage-growth-last-generation/ The CNBC summary of the Pew report discussing middle class...

OK then- non-whites and women in the middle class have all seen their standard of living improve. White males have not stalled but in fact fallen.

    NDA

If you're looking to pitch VCs, NDA makes you look like a rookie, however after the pitch (EDIT- if successful!) an NDA will be put in place. NDAs are fairly standard practice in the B2B world once you've had enough conversation to establish you want to work together.

Over that same period, 6% of the middle class left and became rich, 4% became poor. The United States has had the greatest growth in rich people arguably in the history of the world in the last couple of decades. The rest of the middle class in aggregate has stalled in growth, but that's a...

Back on track, we actively were searching for our first rental this year and the numbers were stupid in our mountain west market too. Real estate easily destroys you if bought too expensively. We'll wait.

    I quit!

Many many times. Decent managers understand and address this with people they want to keep, something applicable to Fastlane as well. My team got a new manager and almost everyone quit within 6 mos, including some longtime employees like myself. I did too, and haven't regretted it for a second.

TMF does describe a special case employee that can be fastlane, but I both agree with what you are saying and even more. Pensions SUCK. They are indentured servitude. The tearing down of that system was not a bad thing, the bad thing was the population didn't know what to do with their freedom.

Kiyosaki is a Doomer. The Boomers are already retiring, and have been for years. Most 401(k) and other asset wealth is concentrated among about 10% of Boomers. The behavior will not look like that of a distributed population slowly pulling chips off the table. Question is, what do you...

    The Education Monopoly... W.T.F?!!

    HOT!
I'm an ME from Silicon Valley. Engineers cash in when they go to an industry/company in a rising tide that needs their skills to solve the problems of the day. I never had a six or seven digit liquidity event, but in my last office the neighbor on one side cashed in at Sun Micro, I can't...

I've typed a couple of responses, but they sound like Slowlane sales pitches. I can tell you how to make TMF defined "good" money in engineering, but do you really want to? It's dang tough to walk away from to pursue great money.

There is a Computer Engineering PE track. I'm guessing it's extremely rarely taken... The PE is really only necessary for Civil or Environmental engineers. Basically it's for engineers who have the final sign off on things some government org is going to file away so they can come back after...
