    General Forum Updates... What's New?

    IMPORTANT!
I like the concept without having actually seen it before. It sounds sort of similar to the Stack Overflow voting which does a great job of surfacing excellent content and authors.

The WordPress vs. WP Engine Debacle - The Battle of Private Equity

    WEB DESIGN
Wouldn't disagree at all. The terms are onerous. Can't imagine those would be acceptable to anyone. However... From the term sheet: "The 8 percent cut could either be paid as a royalty fee to Automattic or as salaries for WP Engine employees who would contribute to the WordPress.org...

The WordPress vs. WP Engine Debacle - The Battle of Private Equity

    WEB DESIGN
Matt was very clear about WPEngine using WP services without compensation and detailed a LONG list of functionality that absolutely would take considerable time and effort to replicate and maintain. He has a legitimate complaint about resource usage by a for profit company without compensation...

    Frustrations with developers.

    EXECUTION
Great add, John. It happens that I need an MVP myself for the 1st time in awhile. Looking forward to relearning what I'd forgotten about hiring. :)

    EXECUTION
https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/community/threads/10-000-spent-on-developers-0-return.114875/ The M stands for MINIMUM. Thousands of hours => definitely NOT an MVP. While an MVP can be presented as functioning software, it can also be: blog post Figma wireframe no code platform app...

It's funny that Sole Trader has nothing to do with trading. I wonder where the expression came from in that case.

Has Moving to a Warm and Sunny Climate Made You Happier?

    NOTABLE! MINDSET
Weather and sun are important, but largely pointless without culture and enrichment. There has to be stuff to do. No amount of exercise, internet and beach time would keep me from losing my mind on a small island hours away from any mainland. Our entire family has been *dramatically* happier...

Does anyone have experience on insiders on here, is it worth it?

There's definitely a much stronger group of people to ping for advice and a higher percentage who are getting something done. Well worth it if you're working on something concrete especially for someone who sees benefits in posting progress threads. The long form progress threads over 2-4 years...

Reminder to myself that launching my next business doesn't have to be something revolutionary. Let's see... We can sell pretzels along with wrapping some pretzel dough around a tiny hotdog. Done. Auntie Anne's has 1,200 locations => $500M revenue in 2020

Dungeon Generator Plugin (Work in Progress)

    IDEA
Directed toward all the people pissing on the idea that you're working on. Getting something out there is infinitely better than hearing people explain why it's a bad idea. Is there anything playable in public yet?

Old school SaaS. Route management for businesses with small fleets (under 20 vehicles usually) making local deliveries or services. Water delivery, laundry, furniture and a bunch of odd ball things like inflatable blowup slides and sticking real estate signs in the ground. Day trading? Or on...

Dungeon Generator Plugin (Work in Progress)

    IDEA
I thought it was a D&D generator. It's amazing how popular the game still is after forty years. :innocent: :halo: The idea you succeed with will not even recognize the idea that you started with. That's the problem with all the negativity. You'll adjust the product based on market feedback...

How to determine if it’s worth continuing to develop my SaaS product?

    MARKETING
OK, super important lesson here. You are not the audience or the buyer. You are the developer. It's universal and completely natural for entrepreneurs to develop products they would prefer or use. Usually a really bad start, but it's OK when they are both the audience and buyer ASSUMING their...

How to determine if it’s worth continuing to develop my SaaS product?

    MARKETING
Another vote for Rob. Plenty of excellent actionable advice for SaaS founder including Microconf talks. His ebook is great - especially for people who little or nothing about marketing. Aimed specifically at devs. Start Marketing the Day You Start Coding https://robwalling.com/assets/ebook.pdf

How to determine if it’s worth continuing to develop my SaaS product?

    MARKETING
They prefer the existing solution because they've never seen an alternative and can't picture one. That's one of major difference between being an entrepreneur and being an employee. One of my best sales guys always used this metaphor: "You've been drinking dirt water your entire life and been...

    General Forum Updates... What's New?

    IMPORTANT!
