What you need to learn before you start a business

It's not the content of the course, it's the concept they espouse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What you need to learn before you start a business

I'm also a fan of JIT (just in time) learning, which is why I was trying to stress that it's the courses themselves, but the concepts they present are useful. Planning, strategy, marketing, understanding money, having a basic understanding of these will help you get going. The bolded word is...

What you need to learn before you start a business

We see a lot of people asking what do they need to learn before launching a business. On one side, we have people saying you don't need to learn anything. On the other hand, we see people listing out skills, like writing code, writing sales copy, branding, SEO, etc. Putting myself out there, I...

Learning to Program is STUPID! (or SMART?!)

    GOLD! HOT!
In the same vein that learning to code is not required to start a business, neither is learn to write sales copy. You can pay for that on Upwork, Fiverr, etc, or you can get something like "Marketing For Developers". Learn only what you need as you need it. You do not need to learn to write...

    How can I be heard?

When someone asks you a question, make sure to answer with "Yes ... and". Also, look into active listening. People love to hear and talk about themselves. If you can prove to someone you are listening and understanding, they will listen to what you have to say.

What's your Lambo? What's your WHY or PURPOSE?

    NOTABLE! CHAT
I was going to say freedom and control like many others, but this one really hit home. It's not just MJ, though. It would also be Pat Flynn, Steve Kamp, and John Sonmez. People I look up to and respect, to show give them the greatest honor by following their teachings.

A little reminder about the Fastlane and hard work...

For a long time, I thought I understood this line, but it was only recently that I came to an understanding that made sense to me. The person I am thinking of is Steve Kamp, the founder of Nerd Fitness. His passions in life are music and travelling. To that end, he built Nerd Fitness to serve a...

Why do people create progress threads?

I have an extremely limited network. In fact, I don't know of anyone else where I live who could be a mentor or would be interested in a mastermind group. So, a progress thread has to serve those until I can ether find those tools or create my own.

    My Progress

    EXECUTION
After so much action faking, I sat down this weekend and decided that as a first step, I'm going to start a freelance software design and development firm. Within an hour of that decision, I got most of the setup work done (name, slogan, minimal website). A quick trip to the county clerk's...

Hundreds of Sidewalkers Dogpile Manager on Quora

    SOCIAL MEDIA OFF-TOPIC
How you do small things is how you do everything. If your boss asks you to be in by 9, and you consistently 5 minutes late, it means you're irresponsible and cannot be held accountable. Somewhat related, this comment reminded me of this post...

I think i have an idea

    IDEA
Keep in mind the margins on tshirts are generally low unless you charge a high price, or use a shoddy tshirt. In the podcast I mentioned, Justin is charging $20, and making $1 per shirt. He's going to raise his prices. I still think for someone seeking to start a new line, it's worth it, as even...

Starting a clothing line isn't hard. If you have a few minutes, checkout the MegaMaker podcast episodes 6 through 8 where the process of creating a t-shirst is discussed and executed. The real question is who are you marketing to, and how well do they like your brand? Clothes are personal, how...

    Good HN thread

    WEB/DIGITAL
For those who don't know, Hacker News is a link sharing and discussion site (similar to Reddit) run by Y Combinator, which is a seed accelerator started by Paul Graham. By it's nature, it's great place for the intersection between technology and entrepreneurship. (I spend way too much time...

    My Progress

    EXECUTION
I had an interview with a smaller company that offered me a 5% raise. When I informed my current company, they countered with a 10% raise and an option to change my healthcare plan to a cheaper one. I decided to stay. In the short term, this was the bad decision. Long term, however, the higher...

    To stop being scared...

    EXECUTION
Actually, I wasn't being serious. I must be missing context here, as I thought 25% was a pretty good success rate despite not using your actual email. I'm not sure how many people actually pay attention to the from address, considering that most email clients hide it. With regards to...
