Journey to location independence and $10k a month
EXECUTIONMade a list of rich, "unsexy" (as Fox likes to call it) companies with terrible websites. Gathered information about them and wrote guides for 6 of them on how to improve their website, with an offer to help them. Have about 10 left. Then will be sending them along with a small gift or...- • nikita •

Journey to location independence and $10k a month
EXECUTIONAlmost finished my first web design job on Upwork... this guy is such a great client, I got lucky! It feels great when someone is very pleased with the results! Wondering if I can get a referral from him or if it'll be pushing it... I'm also considering sending snail mail to ~20 businesses...- • nikita •

When did you realize the system is rigged?
NOTABLE!Oh man I almost caved a lot of times... It was tough resisting because it seems like a much safer option, but ultimately I knew I'd just end up miserable. University is even worse than a job -- paying a fortune for someone to show you powerpoint slides, just to spend years in an office. I...- • nikita •

When did you realize the system is rigged?
NOTABLE!I've always detested the school system and always been punished for it. When I didn't go to university and worked towards getting a job instead I got called multiple names by my parents and emotionally beat-up for months. When I got a job they told me to quit and go to university because it was...- • nikita •

When did you realize the system is rigged?
NOTABLE!Oh that perfectly sums up my last job. I was in web development which isn't bad, but the company culture and my boss were terrible. I would sit on my a$$ for 10 hours a day and be judged for taking lunch break (that's what got me f'ing fired). I was right next to the large window so it was kind...- • nikita •

Making Money With Web Design 2017/2018
HOT!When starting out, without any portfolio pieces, would you say it's best to just start calling up places even though you have no examples, or get some work in via Upwork? I don't have any friends or family that want a website done. All the business I've contacted (local or not) shot me down. I...- • nikita •

When did you realize the system is rigged?
NOTABLE!I can't even put into words how sick I felt going to my slowlane job, like my life had ended or something. Every time I would ask how people could take this for years they would just get mad or say "suck it up, you get used to it". Used to a useless, boring life?- • nikita •

When did you realize the system is rigged?
NOTABLE!When I started my first job and realized that I was miserable, and I couldn't fathom doing this for 50+ years. I hated that place with a passion, having to force myself to fit the culture, to kiss my boss's a$$, etc etc. But even if I loved my job I still couldn't have imagined being slowlane...- • nikita •

Journey to location independence and $10k a month
EXECUTIONSo the guy who took forever to respond and I ended up taking back my offer/proposal just messaged me asking how much money I want to design and build his website. Apparently he needs it done and hasn't found anyone. The power of good proposals, eh? Now I'm wondering how much to ask for... It's...- • nikita •

Journey to location independence and $10k a month
EXECUTIONMainly using Upwork as it's an easy way to get clients while I build up my portfolio. I'll start reaching out to people once I can show them website's I've done. Craigslist I haven't tried, it's putting up ads for your business, right? Fiverr is terrible, I've tried it before for design and got...- • nikita •

Journey to location independence and $10k a month
EXECUTIONStarted getting replies to my Upwork proposals, those that reply always mention how they love that my proposal was personal to their case and not just cookie cutter. The Wordpress job ended up not working out, the guy kept making appointments to call me but never did and kept delaying so I...- • nikita •

Learning to Program is STUPID! (or SMART?!)
GOLD! HOT!Hey there! 1) Yes, I went from complete beginner to job-ready (though by job-ready I mean very junior level). I started with not even knowing basic HTML. 2) The salary for web devs is awesome for a slowlane job. It's almost too good to be true, considering you don't need an education to get a...- • nikita •

Learning to Program is STUPID! (or SMART?!)
GOLD! HOT!This is my worry. I want to automate one day, but I can't trust Upwork freelancers. Even if they're good, everyone has a different style and your work will end up looking inconsistent, which is bad for a brand.- • nikita •

Journey to location independence and $10k a month
EXECUTIONGah, I'm in a strange place. I seem to be invited more to design projects (Photoshop) rather than coding. And I am much more skilled in that area. However, the earning potential is much lower. I mean it would take the same amount of time for me to finish a complicated design as it would a...- • nikita •

Learning to Program is STUPID! (or SMART?!)
GOLD! HOT!Just a portfolio with a nice UI and about 6 of my projects. These were projects I did from the front end course on Free Code Camp. I highly recommend FFC because it guides you through making that portfolio and projects. Took me about 4 months but I had no job as it was straight out of HS. I got...- • nikita •

EXECUTIONI've never tried using LinkedIn myself but it does sound like a good idea. If your profile is well fleshed out the client can easily see your skills and that you're credible.- • nikita •

Journey to location independence and $10k a month
EXECUTIONHe said it was lack of experience. Though everything looked good, I guess it's difficult to hire someone new rather than someone with a ton of experience. And I just got accepted a job! It's to do with Wordpress, something I haven't used much. I've got the Divi theme though, and everything he...- • nikita •

Journey to location independence and $10k a month
EXECUTIONSent about 20 proposals, I send a few every day. Only 1 cold email, felt so spammy sending that one out. I used my personal email address rather than my business which maybe was a mistake... I did post a job myself actually! Created an ad exactly for a job I'd like to complete and had ~65...- • nikita •
