Great Idea, But No Idea Where To Start.

    IDEA
And you think you'd be able to set up a website as "complex as Amazon" for only 70k? That's easily salary for only one dev of theirs. Let alone the years of development to get to the point they're at.

PhoneLow.com is currently up for sale.. would this be a good buy?

You forgot one thing, they just bought it because it had two actual words in it so it must be worth atleast a grand, right? I may have to get phonehigh.com ;) Phonelow doesn't even mean anything...

Thank you! Ever since hearing Tony Robbins talk about Slys story (‪Tony Robbins tells Rocky story‬‏ - YouTube) I've been interested in more about his thoughts since. Never actively searched, but I'm glad I saw this! Probably get around to watching it over the next few days!

    UseCaseDiagram for programmers

    WEB/DIGITAL
If this is your feeling towards it (I don't have the time), how do you think this will reflect onto the programmers? Energy, passion, etc "moves down the line" so if before you've started, this is how you feel indefinitely this will be the programmers approach towards creating it, sloppily...

How is 'plain, and simpler' a bad thing? If anything FB is waaaay to cluttered now, trying to give way to much info to keep you coming back. Which turns into noise Also it has less to do with google being behind it than you try to give it credit for. Ever heard of Buzz, or Wave? Well, yes...

    All My Web App Fastlaners

If the end goal is to learn RoR, just learn RoR. There is no advantage to learning PHP first. If anything, it'd be better to learn RoR first simply because the syntax is different, and would just look "off" if you learn PHP first.

Hey programmers, what software do you use?

    WEB/DIGITAL
Huh? What do you mean by that? There are a 'million and a half' things to complain about PHP, but unless I'm misinterpreting this, that's a very weird complaint.

Advice on Turning My Shit Life Around?

    OFF-TOPIC
It's been said here, but I think it needs to be said again, just do stuff that makes you uncomfortable. As long as you're not screwing someone else over by doing it, you'll realize how little it actually matters once it's over. Say words your normally wouldn't say. For me it was silly things...

There definitely is, just now I opened Visual Studio (Web Dev Express), and it's called a 'TextBox' in the toolbox.

In continuation with this, if you know C# (which I assume you do since you're using it) you can use MVC3, and the server-side code will be your good ol' friendly C#. It wouldn't be too big of a pain to make it browser based, which in itself has many benefits compared to a standalone application.

Problem with employees learning my trade and leaving

Just from reading this (no experience in this) my gut says, it's not something you can really fix with the employee end. There will always be people that will do that. So how do you minimize it? What you need to do is establish rapport with your clients, and make them faithful, rather than...

It just rained and I'm spinning out?

The best part about this is there is no 'next step' especially when you haven't really started. Sure, there are things you should probably do to help become more successful, but there is no map on how to do this. It's exciting, but also very scary.

Man buys a brand new Camaro for $5 playing online penny auction

    WEB/DIGITAL
It's nothing like a lottery. It's not governed by chance what-so-ever. Yes, not everyone that opts in wins, but the rules to win are quite clear. Don't stop bidding. It'll eventually pass a threshold that will make others stop bidding, but there is no element of chance about it.

Thank you for writing that Bob. Simply clicking the 'thank you' button wouldn't feel genuine enough in this case.

For people who do not want to program

    WEB/DIGITAL
Quality talent doesn't hang around Odesk or Elance. They are simply a bidding war to the bottom. You may get something that 'works' but chances are it's not quality work (i.e. hard to build off of).

    Lead Generating Websites

You're right, honestly I was heading out the door, and typed a quick reply after skimming it. Thought it was a two part question about the questionnaire\lead % at that point. Also Artist is the OP.

    Lead Generating Websites

This may just be a difference in how we interpret very detailed questionnaire. I don't consider those example very detailed (atleast not right off the bat). Certainly not a huge hurdle if it'd compare to those!

    Lead Generating Websites

That is going to be one hell of a hurdle to over come, getting people to simply make an account is difficult enough. It may seem like a good approach, but every little thing adds up. Is it absolutely essential to have every question in the 'very detailed' questionnaire?
