    Google Voice

I've found the transcriptions to be surprisingly accurate. They're obviously not perfect, but I've even seen "slang" words come through correctly. If someone talks too quickly, it sometimes has trouble keeping up.

    Google Voice

I recently signed up for a Google Voice account, and it is sweet! Google will issue you a phone number from whatever area code you like. It will then forward calls to any phone(s) you set up and send a text message and/or email transcript of all voicemails. Here's how I've been using it: All...

    Section 8, HUD, etc.

    REAL ESTATE
ATW, I have quite a few properties on Sec 8....do you have any questions in particular? Here's a link to one of the threads: http://www.thefastlanetomillions.com/real-estate-residential/15742-section-8-tenants.html. By the way, nice memory Greg!

    Seller Financing Strategies

    REAL ESTATE
I think owner financing (as the seller) is a great strategy to use in the current RE environment and is one that I am currently pursuing. The beauty of it is you get paid multiple times…the buyer’s cash downpayment, monthly cash flow on the rate and terms spread, and equity when they cash...

    Chartering an Airplane

    OFF-TOPIC
I haven't personally chartered one, but I used to work for a large oil company and regularly flew on their corporate jets for business. I'd say convenience is the #1 difference. Private planes will normally go out of smaller regional airports and private hangers...no security lines, tickets...

    Landlords in Here Please

    REAL ESTATE
Greg, As far as I know each city or county runs their own Section 8 program so it's not necessarily true that the State of Texas isn't accepting new applicants. Like Bilge said, screening is a bit easier when the majority of your rent is guaranteed to show up. Credit checks are worthless...

News: IRS Turning over every rock to extract more money!

From what I've heard of anyone who has been to Jamaica, it went "to shit" a long time ago. Nobody I've talked to that has vacationed there and left their resort has any desire to return. Sorry, but I kind of take offense to the above.

    What would you do?

    REAL ESTATE
The Salvation Army is a good suggestion. You may also tell them about Section 8. I have been amazed at the laziness of some tenants though....many won't even take the initiative to fill out a one page application for free rent! Many people on this forum are against Section 8, but I've had...

    The Revolutionary Road

Nice timing....I saw this post earlier today and then my wife mentioned this afternoon that she ordered the movie on Netflix; so we just finished watching it. Definitely not a feel-good movie, but it made some great points. I loved it when the couple realizes their current slowlane...

    Ford Payment Protection Program

    OFF-TOPIC
Kurt - I talked to my brother-in-law who is a GM at a local Ford dealership and he said they only ran this plan for one month and then discontinued it. I didn't ask about specifics of the program since evidently it's no longer being offered.

    Car Wash Experience Anyone?

    REAL ESTATE
It would probably take me out of buying mode for at least 6 months, depending on my ability to get re-financed to pull out my capital from the rehab. This is one of my main concerns....keeping my cash and that of my private investors' tied up because a bank won't do the refi. Six months would...

    Car Wash Experience Anyone?

    REAL ESTATE
It’s decision time! --and I’d like some input-- After verbally agreeing to the terms I offered, the owner sent my letter of intent to his attorney for review. He sat on it a couple weeks and then called saying they didn’t want to do the 15% seller carry any more. I told him no thanks...

    Good scotch...

    OFF-TOPIC
Not sure about giving it a burl....but maybe a hurl! :puke: Just joking...that absynthe has got some bite though. Certainly not a nice smooth sipping scotch or bourbon. Tried it a few times while over in Prague and it was just brutal every time!

Dave Ramsey on Your World with Neil Cavuto

I won't speak to the recommendation to buy stocks, but I think real estate is a great investment if you anticipate inflation....buy a house now for say $100,000 and rent it out for $1,400 bucks a month. In a couple years if we see runaway inflation, the house becomes worth more, the rent goes...

FEMA to place hurricane evacuees into Foreclosed Properties!

    REAL ESTATE
Evidently the Feds are looking at placing hurricane evacuees into Foreclosed properties in FL. Wow. AP: FEMA may put storm victims in foreclosed homes | Business news | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle Speaking from experience, renting to evacuees through FEMA is a bad idea….kind of sad when...

    Rich Dad Seminar

    OFF-TOPIC
I've currently got the radio on and just heard a commercial for some upcoming Kiyosaki seminars in the Houston area....it sounded to me like they were geared toward stock investing! Has he sold out on REI since it isn't currently "popular" and moved on to pushing Stock investing seminars...

    Car Wash Experience Anyone?

    REAL ESTATE
Since the car wash thread was revived over the weekend, I may as well provide an update....it looks like I may have struck a deal. It's been a bit of a drawn-out process, but since the property isn't listed on the market, I've been sure to give the owner some time to think. Amazingly, he...
