Compiling with Scrivener on PC? Help.

    PUBLISHING
I consider myself a reasonably smart guy, but I've been at it for almost 4 hours now and have made very little progress. Are you using the Mac version? I ask because the more and more research I'm doing, I'm seeing that there are a TON of compile format options that appear to be non-existent in...

Compiling with Scrivener on PC? Help.

    PUBLISHING
Looks like mac version, I don't seem to have many of the formatting options his guide references, as do many of the guides I've found online. Depending on how much time I want to waste trying to figure this out, it may just be easier and more efficient to copy/paste everything to OpenOffice and...

Compiling with Scrivener on PC? Help.

    PUBLISHING
Trying to figure out how to properly compile my book with Scrivener and I'm hoping some more experienced users can save me a lot of research and trial-and-error. With my last book, written using OpenOffice Writer, I simply formatted the text how I wanted it, put page breaks where they were...

    I'm finally joining the crowd!

    PUBLISHING
Hope I didn't offend by what I said. If I did, I apologize. I was just trying to suggest that learning the basics of cover creation in Gimp isn't overly difficult. When I said "so-called cover designers" I wasn't referring to you (since I've never even seen your work). I was referring to people...

Lol. Yeah, I guess that is a fair bit to learn. :p

Cheers to you for this. I did the same, and the covers for my series are running me $2.66 each. Once you learn how to layer images, do pristine cut-outs, manipulate gradients and shading, and do some basic font manipulation (all learnable from YouTube videos), you're pretty much on par or...

    I'm finally joining the crowd!

I'll have to chime in with what others have said. This just isn't true. Even my nieces and nephews (raised in the digital age) have a special place for print fiction. Print books aren't the standard anymore, no, but they certainly still have their place and they'll likely always (at least for...

    Crypto Coins?

    CRYPTO INVESTING
The real question is whether or not to buy them en masse for a long-term gain when they bottom out. Which, since bitcoin is largely fueled by speculation, you can pretty much guarantee a gigantic drop this week.

Definitely love this guy's stuff. The more I read of it, the more confident I become in what I'm trying to do. He seems to echo everything I figured out and have planned from studying other indie-authors. Primarily: Novella Series + Perma-free titles for promotion + Combined series as new...

    [PROGRESS THREAD]: Six-figure Fiction

    PUBLISHING
One full month after publishing my first book, it's finally listed in the correct categories (after escalating to a supervisor via email). After going through this, I'm scared to ever update the listing of this or any other book I publish. But, after it all, I feel like drinking myself silly in...

Thanks, but likely a waste of your time. Since I've never been a "for fun" reader, I'm probably going to have to trick my mind into doing it regularly via masking it as research. I'll buy up some best-sellers so I can read and reverse engineer them. Hopefully, doing this, it will go from...

I haven't listened to the podcast, but I already agree with their stance on it. Given Amazon's royalty model, unless you're doing a 99c promotion, multi-day free promo, or perma-free listing, I see zero reason to list anything below the $2.99 70% royalty threshold. So, in my mind, I want to...

Definitely agree. That's something I try to keep in mind as I'm learning. I'm sure it's just the perfectionist in me getting a hair up its a** and trying to convince me that because I can't break down a sentence or get confused on some things, that my writing is weak. Also completely agree. I...

Road to Becoming a Fastlane Author

    PUBLISHING
That's what I'm planning to do as well: Multiple novellas series, each with the first book perma free to drive sales, all interlinked in more than one way. Since you write so much faster than I do, I'm very eager to see how they go for you.

Why not put the first on perma-free to drive a stream of sales to the other 5? Read about one guy doing this with a 3-book novella series and pulling 60k in 12 months off the series. I'm sure not all do quite that well, but even 1/4th would be pretty nice for one series.

    [PROGRESS THREAD]: Six-figure Fiction

So far, after starting my new schedule today and taking the focus away from words per day and just focusing on hours worked, I noticed a really, really good bump in output. Probably because I wasn't bogging myself down with trying to hit a word goal or make each sentence a masterpiece. After...

I actually have a copy of that right beside me. The only problem I have with that book is that it's hard for me to tell which examples are correct and incorrect (because they don't seem to list them in the same format throughout the book). Luckily, I managed to get my hands on a complete...

Great read. Also interesting to note that, yet again, despite what all the communities out there seem to echo (except this one), someone is saying: Definitely bookmarking that post for later motivation.
