What made you pull the trigger and start your first business?

The catalyst was my FTE that set me off on reading and taking tiny baby steps to get out of this grind. I was in a successful sales job, and was on track to be one of the top in the company. Upper management decided they did not like my approach and restructured the comp plan. That took $30k...

Product vs Service - Which Do you Prefer to Sell?

    HOT!
And why? If you could start over, and found two equal opportunities with one in providing a product and a second in providing a service, which would you pursue? This is assuming that both opportunities conform to the CENTS model, and in early calculations they both have the same potential in...

INTP Seemed about 95% accurate. The biggest thing I was curious about is it said we strive for the entrepreneur lifestyle, however it also says we second guess ourselves. I mean, this is extremely accurate for me: Second-Guess Themselves – Logicians remain so open to new information that...

No clue where the right spot would be for this, but I have a quick question about forum features. I am really excited about the "who to follow" thread, however my news feed is now completely littered with "xyz liked this post" with no added content from them. Is there a way I can only follow...

Just on a whim I did a search for CPAs that ranked highly in my area. I really liked the idea of targeting higher profile services instead of little mom and pop shops. My thought process was since tax season has just passed, surely there are plenty of CPAs that didn't get as much business as...

Well scratch all of that. Typical Grady unfortunately. Absolutely fascinated by @Fox 's GOLD! - How to Learn Code, Start a Web Company, $15k+ per month within 9 months thread and there's something there I may be able to do. To those that are asking if he's still pursuing this, a quick look at his YouTube channel (in his signature) shows a video posted last month titled "Building a Website for a Small Business" Sounds like it's still going to me, and this is absolutely what I'm focusing on for 2019. Beginner's Guide on Who to Follow! (2019)

    HOT!
And now I have a goal for 2020. To be included on this list and hopefully not on the "who to ignore" list! Quick (noob) question. How do you follow people that have limited their profiles? Does that mean only insiders can follow them?

You don't matter. (A letter from HR)

I had a similar experience. Was at an architecture/engineering firm in 2008 (right when housing market crashed) and we had monthly meetings to show all of the hours that were planned for the month. Everyone was given hours except me. My column was blank. I spoke up during the meeting, and...

Hiring for a new service business

Planning on moving forward with the home maintenance idea, but curious about some of the early steps. When starting a service business, do you do the work yourself for a while or try and hire someone relatively early? The only reason I would consider outsourcing this early on is because I also...
