"Get your hands out of your poop!"

    MARKETPLACE
LOL no it did not - I ran a poll on Babycenter. Got some great feedback from that and from the prototypes that are currently on the street (including from nannies around DC, who seems to operate a vast underground network around here).

Thanks for the vote of confidence! It's awesome how things are working so far...I had a huge problem, I solved it myself, I showed other people, they said they had the same problem and wanted a prototype...after years of trying to force square pegs into round holes it's nice to be doing...

    I worked in Military Intelligence...

    AMA
I smell a business opportunity here. I bet there are plenty of people who would pay you to run them through a "sales improvement"/"public speaking"/etc. course designed around accomplishing and then reporting back on real world challenges you lay out. I can see the headline now..."military...

"Get your hands out of your poop!"

    MARKETPLACE
After I get the redesign back, they are the first folks I'm going to. No only do I use my poop shield on every diaper change because it's highly effective (and reduces my stress from "ahhhhhh hurry up hurry up!" to no stress at all) but it also actually speeds up the total time for each diaper...

"Get your hands out of your poop!"

    MARKETPLACE
Yeah! :) I can't wait to see what the 3d drawings look like - I think I can get moms (and dads) pretty excited about this. Especially since half of my survey respondents said this was a problem for them. I still can't believe people put their kids on the floor and step on their hands to avoid...

"Get your hands out of your poop!"

    MARKETPLACE
I don't - I've shipped a few prototypes (Thanks @bensonj !) and am getting feedback on the utility and design. I'm also talking to an industrial designer who is going to take what I have and make it more functional, portable and appropriate for mass production based on the feedback I am/will...

Having trouble making small talk; I don't care about other people

    NOTABLE! PEOPLE
Always be in interview mode. People like to talk about themselves and most will talk endlessly when asked the right follow up questions. Always be thinking about the followup question while they are talking (this is a form of active listening). This will often steer the conversation toward...

    Medical app for paramedics

    EXECUTION
As a former EMT - good luck! Are you doing any bluetooth integration with the monitors? I imagine this would be huge for allowing a non-ALS system/provider to do a 12-lead and send it to the ER for STEMI alerts.

Shark Tank - What Do YOu Think Will Happen????

    OFF-TOPIC
Two other fun games: Guess why will sharks go "out" Shark Tank Paint Brush Cover drinking game (drink when Barbara says "You're adorable...", Mark says "You've got a nice little product, but you're not a business yet", Robert says "Great presentation", a shark offers a licensing deal, etc.)

Likwid, Shark Tank and Social Media/PR

    HOT! MARKETING SOCIAL MEDIA
I think you must capitalize on the idea that you put the paint brush away wet, leave it for a few days, open the package and start painting again because the brush is still wet. A video (or even a side by side picture) capturing that is what will go viral, in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback-that's one of the variants I'm going to test now that I have a decent ad. (Simple image/headline/email vs what I have now).

This is invaluable stuff - thanks for doing this retrospective.

Success! So I ran some FB traffic to the PR-focused landing page, with terrible results for both the FB ad and the landing page conversion rate. I figured that my marketing message was way off, and that my target audience was not interested in what I was selling. I decided to approach my...

Change in direction for my invention

How do you know anyone wants your idea? Why don't you just file a crappy provisional patent yourself (giving you some protection for 12-18mo) make a small batch of them and see if you can sell it (see if anyone wants it). If someone copies you, are you going to have the $100,000+ to fight it in...

    Becoming "Too Comfortable"

    MINDSET
Are you truly in control of your operation? I have a friend who makes awesome money selling other people's stuff on amazon. Now that he has the process down, employees, etc. he can just sit back and let the money come in. But when a major supplier says "no more online selling for you" or Amazon...

How to be faster than a Ferrari for less money than a Honda Civic

    HOT! MINDSET
Same as flying. It's actually rare that I get more than a few seconds of relaxing time and go "wow look down there-an aircraft carrier!" 4/5 thoughts per second are aircraft emergency prep/situational awareness, 1/5 are "this is awesome"

Making cold-callers pay to reach you

Google Dane Maxwell idea extraction. Lots of free content where he walks you thought the process. Also, while I've done idea extraction via email, in person is much better. You'll hate walking up and talking to strangers, but just be confident in where you're coming come. You're trying to help...

How to be faster than a Ferrari for less money than a Honda Civic

    HOT! MINDSET
We are supposed to expose all body parts that may have been injured. That's why EMT's carry those funny looking scissors (called trauma shears). When you slide down the road at 20mph on your back, we are supposed to cut your pants, jacket, shirt and boots off. Because if we don't how do we know...

Making cold-callers pay to reach you

I don't think "executives" are your target market - I think it's the mom-and-pop places that are likely staffed by the owner. They are overworked, need help, don't have time for researching the best way to do this or that, and hate cold callers because they waste their time and tie up phones...

Aside from responding to violent scenes and people hopped up on meth and stuff, one of the most dangerous situations an EMT can face is trying to cut the leathers off a motorcycle rider. It's recommended that you do it quickly while the patient is unconcious. :)
