Maybe it's because I know your pen name and I've read your work, but I stalk your rankings and thread regularly. I like living vicariously through you while I study for my tests. :D (Thanks again for sharing all you do!) But, one interesting thing that's come to my attention is that it seems...

    [PROGRESS THREAD]: Six-figure Fiction

    PUBLISHING
March Update: Late to posting this because I haven't been writing. Truth be told, I've decided I want to go back to school, and I've pretty much just been studying my butt off. I have to take the ACT in less than a week and it's been YEARS since I've opened a textbook. I took some practice...

    PUBLISHING
Also having no business writing and recently entering the self-publishing arena, I'll give a few pieces of advice that I should have followed before I started: 1. Buy and read Writing the Breakout Novel. 2. Buy and read 10-20 best-sellers in your genre. I'd argue that romance is probably one...

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
Oh, and one other interesting thing... I think most people would agree that Amazon is "the" bookstore of the world. As such, not only do you have a story/book that is currently one of the top 100 most popular books in the world, you're currently ranking as one of the top 100 authors in the...

6 Ways To Stop Being A "Wantraprenuer"

    NOTABLE! MINDSET
Just wanna say that I love this line because it's very true. Over analyzing, fear, doubt, indecision, and every other thing that keeps one from executing an idea, all comes back to a lack of commitment to said idea. Once you're committed to just going forward and executing, so much other stuff...

Having trouble figuring out the best way to create a website

    MARKETING
If you already have a hosting account setup with HostGator, they have 1-click install of the wordpress software. Running your site via wordpress costs you nothing. Avoid anyone who tells you otherwise. You can pay extra for wordpress themes, custom plugins and functionality, or whatever. But...

What software is that from? As expected, Amazon is already showing you some serious love in their algo's. Have you verified if you're showing up on any also-boughts yet by browsing the others in your sub-genres? If you're not showing up on ANY also-boughts yet, then the boom from the update...

Been watching (stalking?) your ranking pretty steadily for the last 8-12 hours or however long, and the only thing I keep thinking is that I wish there was some quick way to get you some promotion. I can only imagine that the exposure is drastically larger than the sub-genres alone. I don't...

LOL at Entrepreneurs who/r outsourcing backlinks...

    FUNNY
Yeah, but you have to look at it from their perspective too, they have to keep changing the ranking requirements, otherwise the rankings will forever be compromised and abused. It's one of the main reasons Google has been raising the barrier to entry by focusing on brands and branding...

You're right about that, these types of services prey on the uninformed. What they don't realize is that not only will these types of services not work, they're likely to get site penalties, sand-boxed, or even de-indexed. The sad truth is that most SEO firms out there are only in business...

Yeah, forum spam is hell. Not really much that can be done about it. I even remember on a few inactive forums I used to have that the spam account attempts numbered in the hundreds per day... on inactive, new forums, lol. I'd imagine it's mostly just some flavor of the month bot that's out there...

    Headline Suggestions

    MARKETING
Not that I have much experience in this area, but I'm pretty sure you can cut the 'Microfiber' part from any headline, unless you're expecting search results from that or it's a selling point in the market. Otherwise, it's pretty useless to a general consumer. PRO-DUSTER Lightweight 3-in-1 Car...

Not sure why they bother with that crap anyway, Google's landscape has been drastically shifting towards brands over the last few years. Backlink spamming might have worked a few years ago, and probably still does for small niche sites, but any legit venture is wasting money outsourcing backlink...

Out of a Funk - a Newbie's Journey In Self Publishing

    PUBLISHING
Just keep writing and get it all down. If you get stuck on something, skip it and move ahead. You can always add/remove/change whatever you want in the editing phase. Getting the rough draft finished is the hardest part, imo.
