Using freelancers to help start your company

Depends what you're hiring for and whether you need people in the same physical location as you. Regardless of where you source subcontractors/freelancers, you'll want to have at least rudimentary understanding of what specifically you're outsourcing to them--ideally, you'll want to have direct...

I wasted over $100,000 last year.

Something like a tarpaper shack, but with a big safe in the back filled with bags of cash, and a money-printing machine? :)

    Patent question

    EXECUTION
The U.S. is a first-to-file country. More info on first-to-file here: First to file and first to invent - Wikipedia That said, many/most patents have holes in them that competitors can fill through their own patents. (Speaking purely as a non-attorney).

This guy finally decided to crank it up a notch, again? + Intro (long)

    INTRO
So true, and it's a great analogy to tackling an unfamiliar challenge--like many things in entrepreneurship. Most people give up early, at the first sign of discomfort; those who persist improve and reap the rewards.

    [PROGRESS] Bekit's Progress Thread

    EXECUTION
To manage juggling your day job, delivering freelance client work, and getting more client work: Mentally compartmentalize your day job. You go there, do the work, and when you leave, you're done with it for the day. (Also, if possible, you can strategize about your freelance stuff while you're...

    [PROGRESS] Bekit's Progress Thread

    EXECUTION
First, huge congrats on taking the actions that led to you getting paid. Huge accomplishment! I have a bunch of stuff for you: Don't worry about getting "whale" clients, yet. Focus on bread-n-butter clients so you'll have a portfolio of MRR. That way, if you lose 1 client, it's not...

    Control your environment

    MINDSET
Indeed. Particularly with family, since they can trigger a lot of emotional stuff, I find it's helpful to mentally prepare before I interact with them. Personally, I use a mantra, taken from Star Trek: "Shields up!" It reminds me not to let their negative mindset & criticism in.

Newbie needs advice on how to validate an idea using questionnaires, etc.

    IDEA
This. Talk to potential customers--you'll get way more qualitative info that'll be little gold nuggets. I'd also suggest getting much more specific with your target market--SMEs are not a market, but more a general segment. What SMEs do you think would have the more interest, have the biggest...

    Quitting that 9to5 or not?

Quitting a job to work on a business idea is pretty risky if you don't have savings to pay your bills, and if you haven't done any validation to get customers. Like rwhyan mentioned, put in at least an hour daily into your side project while working your day job. Use your day job to fund your...

    What Business Should I Start?

So, as a 13-year old, you can do things us adults can't do--which is to your advantage. People LOVE to see kids hustling, and are more likely to buy from you to support what you're doing. And you might consider other business ideas besides drop-shipping. For example, homeowner services--like...

    From german slowlane to Autobahn

    SLOWLANE INTRO
Prior failures? Keep going. Trying & failing means you're in the arena. Use CENTS as your idea filter. Have an idea? Does it meet CENTS criteria? Like @Chapas said, it's OK to do something that is NOT CENTS as a bridge to your CENTS fastlane. Just make sure you don't get too...

Would you still start an idea if you're not sure how big the need is?

    IDEA
What @RazorCut said. What's the best-case scenario? You open a cattery in the most densely-populated (per cat-owning capita) city, and cater to wealthy customers. How many of these would there be demand for? What if 10,000 cats showed up at your door? Could you serve them all? Interesting...

Having difficulties finding problems on Twitter

Sounds way too broad. I'd look for problems that people talk about within a specific niche--whether it's pontoon boaters, machine learning data cleansing, industrial ventilation, etc. Having a more specific focus will yield better problems to solve.

Something else to consider is that working on a business with a family member can be problematic. Same with having any business partner: you have to choose very wisely and make sure it's a good fit for both of you. I have an acquaintance that was working with her mother on a physical product...
