Need help, support, or just a morale boost?

We can help with the information on SBA loans/PPP/personal rebates/etc, although responses may be delayed since we're still in the thick of tax season. Also, limited assistance with cash-flow forecasting, and general tax/accounting questions. I have actually read large portions of the CARES...

So, I Got An Offer to Sell My Business... (I'm 25 Years Old)

    HOT!
Interesting, I'll have to check that out. Normally Seller-financing happens because the Buyer can't get enough funds from the bank. I can honestly say I've never seen it used like this by the Seller.

On the tax side, most of it is Capital Gain with online businesses. You can spread out that gain by using an installment sale, but I wouldn't. If the company fails and the Buyer stops making payments, you're left trying to chase them through the court system.

You aren't going to get $1 million for this. Average sales price for affiliate sites are anywhere from 2x-4x trailing twelve months profit (profit, not revenue).

[C0VlD-19] Forgiveable SBA Loans For Small Biz and Freelancers

    HOT!
I don't think the answer is black and white. The application makes you certify that you need the money due to uncertainty (as @MJ DeMarco noted). That's a personal choice. I've seen the same question go through the FIRE community. If you have plenty in the bank, and you don't need your...

Then it sounds like you're the type of business this program was meant for.

[C0VlD-19] Forgiveable SBA Loans For Small Biz and Freelancers

    HOT!
My crystal ball says there's going to be less and less appetite to pass more stimulus. The stuff that was easy to agree to has passed. The Bills coming down the pipeline are likely to be a lot more partisan because there is substantially less urgency. If your cash flow is crippled, then apply...

[C0VlD-19] Forgiveable SBA Loans For Small Biz and Freelancers

    HOT!
This is going to be an unpopular opinion around here, and not targeted to anyone specifically (since I don't know most of your businesses), but I don't really care. I would encourage you to think hard about whether you need these programs. Most of you want to be a capitalist, but that means...

How To Handle Paying Multiple Remote Staff & Managing Finances?

Just tell them your payment schedule. Most large business run accounts payable every 2 weeks, why should your contractors expect anything different?

Plus, if you give them a range, it opens the conversation to "what can I do to ensure I'm getting the top of the range?" Now all of a sudden you're a trusted advisor that will help guide them to top dollar.

    HOT!
Checking on the flowers/veggies to make sure they're coming along ok. Excuse the uneven pepper germination - I think my heat mat cooked the seeds (oops!). We'll see what still germinates. Broccoli and kale are officially sprouted.

Test my website/online biz valuation calculator

I tested out the e-commerce one. Stopped answering after the first page. You started asking about website stats, but my imaginary company only sells on Amazon, so it wasn't relevant anymore. The pertinent info from what I've seen in the market: Age of business Gross Revenue (TTM) Profit (TTM)...

    HOT!
We started seeds a couple weeks ago (have some flowers, 5 types of peppers, kale and broccoli sprouting so far). We'll add about a dozen more types of veggies/flowers over the next couple weeks, plus the stuff we can direct sow. We're also adding some raised beds to our regular garden, so we...

(USA) Treasury and IRS To Delay Tax Deadline by 90 Days

    TAXES | REGS
Note: at this time, this is for payments only, not the actual return. The easy workaround is to just extend your personal return. If they're not going to penalize you for paying late, then you don't have to worry about the whole "you need to pay your taxes even if you extend" nuance.

Letting someone go in a crisis/city on lockdown?

    PEOPLE
No, it's not. If you want to continue bringing in enough to support the rest of the team who is actually doing their job, then you need to let go of those who are a drain on resources. If letting go of a person who doesn't want to learn the necessary skills increases your run rate from 3...

Letting someone go in a crisis/city on lockdown?

    PEOPLE
Sounds like you've given her plenty of chances to learn the skills you actually need. I'd remind her of this when you let her go. I wouldn't mention revenue, or COVID, or anything else. You told her the skills she needed to continue working there, and she choose not to work on them.

Duct tape and bailing wire: business software

There are a couple that come to mind: Zoho One is surprisingly powerful for the $30/user/month it costs. Odoo is another one that has been mentioned to me by @ZCP but I haven't had a chance to check it out. The money may be more on the setup/implementation side of these softwares that already...

Honestly? Word of mouth/referrals. Probably less powerful for you. If your marketing does what you say it does, people are going to hoard the info instead of telling all their friends.

As a data point, if you're interested. We tried cold outreach via Linkedin about a year ago. Blasted out invites based on filters with a connection request message. Ran some messaging after connection was accepted (not personalized though). Got zero business. We sent out thousands of requests...
