Starting (and Fastlaning) a lawn care service business

    GOLD! HOT!
Most payroll services are not economical at the level you currently are. The reason being software and setup costs are usually fixed (or at least base + incremental). You can do it on your own without software, but you have to make sure you get deposits to the right places at the right times...

Burned down my slowlane political career for entrepreneurship 17 months ago

    SLOWLANE EXECUTION
There are a couple threads on here recently about Instragram strategies. It's not something I've tried, so I didn't follow them very closely, but if I find them I'll link them in here.

    You’re not selling wholesale?

    NOTABLE!
That description is standard AP procedures. It all depends on what size organization you are selling to, and what their internal policies are. It's completely possible they will pay you 100% up front, it's just rare.

    You’re not selling wholesale?

    NOTABLE!
Ah, I may have been unclear in my description. ACH, in my experience, is not used as much in the US as it could be, because many companies find it faster to print checks. This is due to a combination of old/clunky software, old/clunky AP processors (yes, the people), and just habit. I'm not...

    You’re not selling wholesale?

    NOTABLE!
Part of this is habit, and part is convenience. The way traditional Accounts Payable departments work is as follows: - The buyer creates a Purchase Order, this is entered into the accounting system and mailed/emailed to the vendor - The invoice arrives from the vendor, this is received by the...

Starting (and Fastlaning) a lawn care service business

    GOLD! HOT!
This is a pretty good list, so I won't clutter the thread with too much extra here. Are you running payroll for your guys? I think you'd have trouble making the argument that they're independent contractors given your level of control. Do you have a separate bank account for the business? You...

Supreme Court: Online shoppers can be forced to pay sales tax

    TAXES | REGS FEATURED!
Let me get this straight. You're going to take the time to register in every state? So now every state knows you exist, and they're still going to send you a punitive assessment because no state will reasonably believe $1 covers your liability. Plus now you've told them you have taxable sales...

Supreme Court: Online shoppers can be forced to pay sales tax

    TAXES | REGS FEATURED!
It will probably be a punitive assessment. I.e. they'll say you owe $50k, and you have to prove it's only $400. Then they will still hit you with a penalty for not filing. If you can just raise your prices 8%, why aren't you already doing that?

Stop what you're doing. Get a line of credit.

    HOT!
True, but it was still harder to find one then I expected. There may also be private money for businesses with no history. Higher interest, but could bridge you the two years until you can go to a "real" bank.

Stop what you're doing. Get a line of credit.

    HOT!
I went local. I was buying real estate with no business history. The big banks said no, but the local bank loaned at great rates. Real estate may be different than inventory-based businesses, but worth a shot.

If you're going to quote me, at least give me credit. @MJ DeMarco @Vigilante is this person for real? Emma Lee and Elif seem to have blown this place up in the last day.

How would a Supreme Court decision get thrown out?

Supreme Court: Online shoppers can be forced to pay sales tax

    TAXES | REGS FEATURED!
The IRS is the only federal agency that brings in more money for each person they hire than it costs them to hire that person. I imagine state revenue departments are similar. If I can hire a person at $40k a year who can track down and collect $200k of taxes, I'd hire everyone I could until the...

Supreme Court: Online shoppers can be forced to pay sales tax

    TAXES | REGS FEATURED!
How much do you want to take that chance? I am not a lawyer. In theory, an LLC provides some protection. However, if you have an LLC, and you're the only person working in it, do you think the state won't come after you if you fail to pay them some taxes? Remember, their lawyers are salaried...

Yep. The only way you get a list is to break into my house and see what greets you.

Supreme Court: Online shoppers can be forced to pay sales tax

    TAXES | REGS FEATURED!
Simple, if they find out you meet the threshold, they're going to send you some letters. When you don't respond, they're going to bring it to court. Are you really going to fly to Ohio to fight them in court? If not, they get a default judgment against you. Now your business has a lien and you...

Supreme Court: Online shoppers can be forced to pay sales tax

    TAXES | REGS FEATURED!
If you sell on any major marketplace (Amazon, etc), the states are starting to force them to turn over seller data. If you own a Shopify store, and sell a couple grand worth of goods into a state, you're unlikely to hit the threshold. Even if you do, your chances of getting caught are probably...

Supreme Court: Online shoppers can be forced to pay sales tax

    TAXES | REGS FEATURED!
I believe it's such a mess because Congress essentially left it up to the Courts to decide our commerce rules. This is one of the very few times I wish the federal government would step in. Let states pick their own rate, but have the rules be the same across the states. Bonus points if the...
