Finally Entered the Fastlane - Hobby store & Ecommerce - Progress thread

    EXECUTION
Thank you for the kind words! Events are definitely a big way to promote the store and make a lot of money in a single day. However, the IP of the games isn't ours and if we want to be official stores there's policies to follow. Unfortunately at this time tournaments can't be played online using...

Hundreds In Ad Spend - ZERO Sales

    HOT! MARKETING
I've had a shopify store for the past year but it's not pure ecommerce because it's an extension of our brick and mortar store (we sell collectible card games mostly). We don't rely on it, not right now anyway, and our efforts are currently spent on the physical side of the business. What I've...

    SMMA: The Fool's Gold

    HOT! RANT
Slightly unrelated topic but I noticed this too and coined a phrase I find myself going back to often: "people like me don't work for people like me". I wish they did because I could really use their help, but they don't. Like me, they are busy doing their own things.

    walking the walk

    MINDSET QUESTION
You can't pin everything under being bad at customer service. Players need advice on their decks, they want to know what cards they can find in what sets, they need you to find singles for them, they want to tell you about their latest creation and have your approval, they need organized events...

    walking the walk

    MINDSET QUESTION
I personally disagree with this. There's another section in the book that talks about Lebron James shooting hoops 24/7 in reference of how you should be monogamous with your business to be good at it. I don't think you can achieve that level of skill if you don't even like basketball. It's true...

Maybe the slowlane is better than the Fastlane

    MINDSET SLOWLANE SCALING
The big difference is TIME. Work on upwork will never end, you'll have to do it your whole life. Your landry business will eventually make money on its own, but it's naturally 10x harder to accomplish. The result, however, is true freedom. To me, that's worth pursuing.

You get rich owning things you control...

    GOLD! NEWSLETTER
Entrepreneurs are by definition residual claimers. Your business gets paid first but it has obligations towards suppliers, customers and whoever else allows it to run smoothly. You only get to keep a small portion of the profits each year. The good news is that, once your business makes $1-2M a...

    Saad Khan's EXECUTION THREAD

    HOT! EXECUTION
What jpeg you upload on a random website has zero impact or correlation to your success (or lack thereof) in your life. Been following your threads from the amazon days, are you still active on that front? It sounded like you were a real expert, how is it going? I respect your hustle a lot and...

Finally Entered the Fastlane - Hobby store & Ecommerce - Progress thread

    EXECUTION
July update The store has grown quite a bit! We have a full house for one of our TCGs now, sometimes as often as 3 times a week. The other two TCGs are still growing, we expect them to pick up pace starting in September; the competitive season is ending now and stops for August. We got...

Site Marketplace (Sends you to external store): Doable? examples? profitable?

    IDEA
I obviously can't know for sure because you didn't link it. It could be affiliate marketing, where the owner joins an affiliate program on a website and gets a commission whenever a sale is made through their link. Personally, it's someting I'd mess with in my early 20s and then leave. You...

Site Marketplace (Sends you to external store): Doable? examples? profitable?

    IDEA
It's likely dropshipping. It's easy to set up and for that reason it's extremely hard to make any money from it because everyone and their dog does it hoping for easy money. Lots of competition, very hard to stand out.

    Is developing video-games a Fastlane?

SIDE HUSTLE SAAS / APPS QUESTION
My advice is to do the opposite. Game development IS your plan B to escape your normal job, which is plan A. The more you work in the coding industry the more experience you gain and the more likely you'll be to then succeed at your own SaaS or videogame or whatever. p.s. "the last tree" is...

    Is developing video-games a Fastlane?

SIDE HUSTLE SAAS / APPS QUESTION
Coding itself isn't fastlane, being able to sell that code to millions of people is. The most recent one-man success is Only Up. Others include Minecraft, Among Us, Untitled Goose Game, Slay the Spire and Inscryption (some of these are indie devs, others one-man projects). It does require some...

The importance of having "experience in the market" when starting

    IDEA EXECUTION QUESTION
Personally I've found it to be crucial. For example, although I love pizzas I know nothing on how to cook them or the food science behind it. I wouldn't start a venture like that without digging through a few books at least, then working for a pizza chain for a few months and experience it...

    EXECUTION
Yeah I know the guy but I'm not a huge fan. I think leftover boxes are just a natural consequence of the business you run, some of them can spike but others will just rot there for years. Our supplier used to be a store and now sells those leftovers wholesale for cheap (journey into nyx boxes...

Finally Entered the Fastlane - Hobby store & Ecommerce - Progress thread

    EXECUTION
June update Not a lot of news this time, the store is finally settling now that we have access to 6 months of data. Communities for the different games are forming and come regularly every week, sometimes even twice. We average €7k/month in revenue, break-even point is around €5k assuming a 20%...

MLM - Who Moved My Cheese?

    GURUS
It just happened to me today, a friend I hadn't seen in 3 years and had moved abroad wanted to see me, I was naturally happy and we had lunch. However, there were some red flags about what he was doing and as soon as I got home he shared with me this long a$$ pyramid scheme recruitment video. At...

Are We Obsessed with Hardness and Difficulty?

    MINDSET
Define easy. To me, it's something you've done before. Anything else is hard. Everything gets easier the more you do it but few actually start because it's where it's hardest. Most give up early because they are not as interested or committed to get past the hardest part. Nothing is easy the...

Does a service business violate the rule of Control?

    QUESTION
The customer will always vote with their dollar at the end of the day but it's in your control to give them every reason to stay. Yes, in theory everyone could walk away from amazon simultaneously and the business would fail but they don't because amazon is great and gives them plenty of...
