    Building a cell phone app

    WEB/DIGITAL
Exactly. In fact, the more crappy apps made = the more successful this type of startup would be.

    Building a cell phone app

    WEB/DIGITAL
App Investor looked interesting, but according to its website: I feel like that's a pretty big limitation.

    Building a cell phone app

    WEB/DIGITAL
Thanks for your input. I agree the fastlane community is pretty trustworthy, I guess I just figured it takes alot of motivation to build something and I don't think I could ever build a startup without truly feeling like I own that idea (not necessarily meaning it's completely original or hasn't...

    Building a cell phone app

    WEB/DIGITAL
I'm interested in building a cell phone app and I was wondering if anyone on the fastlane has done something like this could help me. My idea started like this: I was in Fort Lauderdale over spring break and me and my friends had a difficult time finding bars/clubs after we left the one we...

Would fueling your Fastlane with a Liquor/Spirits Business = DWI?

I think this would be a very interesting venture. Like you said there are some big players, but the market isn't nearly as mature as the soda or beer industry. I think the key to being successful would be either market differentiation or a great marketing spin. SkinnyGirl Margaritas had both...

    Real estate development...

    REAL ESTATE
hatterasguy, how have you been doing? I just found this thread and found it to be extremely interesting. RE development isn't mentioned alot in this community but it seems to be lucrative. Would you recommend any RE development-specific books for someone who knows about real estate but never did...

    Hello from Rochester, NY

Welcome Robjm. I'm from Poughkeepsie but I go to school in Utica. There are a few western New Yorkers on the fastlane who you might be able to hook up with.

Has anyone taken an online real estate course to get a license?

    REAL ESTATE
I'm thinking about getting my real estate license this summer. I live in New York and the main requirement other than passing the written examination is to take a 75-hour real estate course approved by the state. I found one at my local community college which starts soon, but my main problem is...

Recommended Ways to Promote A New Website!

    MARKETING
My current startup is B2B so the marketing strategy is obviously much different than B2C. I'm focusing my first strategy on direct-mail. I should be mailing these out by the end of the week. From talking to some experienced entrepreneurs I've learned B2B has to have a healthy proportion of...

    FBI Seizes Fulltiltpoker.com, pokerstars.com, etc

    WEB/DIGITAL
That's the first thing that I thought of. I heard one of the big issues surrounding this was the fact that the players who were making serious money weren't paying taxes since they had no proof of income. My friend has $24k frozen in a pokerstars account right now. I don't know much about...

how to start with no money?

Read Art of the Start. Part of being an entrepreneur is being able to bootstrap. Find out what kind of business you want to start and see how you can get it off the ground. Even companies that have a good amount of seed funding need to bootstrap in some areas.

What would you go with $150k?

Great feedback thank you guys. Andviv, that's a very interesting investment group. Is this group something similar to a private REIT? How did you find this investment group? Other than monthly cashflow checks from rent, does the group have a plan to sell their properties or are they going down...

What would you go with $150k?

That's not at all what I'm saying. In fact hatterasguy's advice wasn't nearly what I was expecting, but it was constructive and had facts. And in the end it was helpful. And I know he speaks from personal experience in that industry. I'm just pointing out how I've been away from this community...

What would you go with $150k?

My original post states we're not looking at anything earlier than December. Having been one of the earlier fastlane members, joining in 2007, I have to say this thread was probably the most unpleasant thing I've read here and I kind of regret posting it. I remember in the beginning of...

What would you go with $150k?

I'm certainly not an expert on apartment/commercial real estate, but guys on this forum like SteveO who used Eugene Volucci's strategies started with alot less money than what we have and made it very fastlane. I'm not saying we're not going to be able to start big right away, but starting small...

What would you go with $150k?

My friend is a professional poker player and by December he wants to invest $150k which is a portion of his savings. He's at a different period in his life than me, as I am pretty much broke and bootstrapping everything I have to get my internet start-up going but he also works long days at...

Has anyone applied to Y Combinator?

From what I read it's generally between 2%-8%. One of the reasons I'm applying is not just for the money but because of the connections. The YC alumni is pretty impressive and they all network together. And while you're at the three months with YC you have access to their programmers and lawyers...

Has anyone applied to Y Combinator?

For those who don't know, Y Combinator is a company that invests seed funding in early staged start-ups. They have this pretty interesting program where they choose a decent amount of entrepreneurs and pay their way to live in the Bay Area for three months this summer while the entrepreneurs...
