    Mobile Game Progress Thread

    EXECUTION
Oh nice! Grats on all the releases then, and sorry for making a jackass assumption! I thought I'd remembered you mentioning something about learning to make games for this project, but apparently I'm getting threads confused. But seriously go drop in an analytics package! You need some...

    Mobile Game Progress Thread

    EXECUTION
It's your first game. Just assume that it's going to fail (if you succeed then great! but don't expect it). As you said, you learned a ton that will make your next game better. Just consider your first few games practice for developing the process. Considering that, I'd say you should...

Is UNSCRIPTED another SCRIPT to follow?

Sorry for the paraphrase, but for everyone skipping Andrew's post, here's my cliff notes :) I'm only maybe 1/3 through the book at the moment, so maybe it's discussed, but I don't think the problem is that there are scripts, it's that we don't realize that they're there (or at least, we don't...

    Photo manipulation value

    OFF-TOPIC
They're .pngs with a transparent background, so if you're copying them into another format that doesn't handle transparency, like a .jpg, then it fills in the background with something. I can add a background of whatever color you'd like though. Here they are as .jpgs with white backgrounds :

    Photo manipulation value

    OFF-TOPIC
Looks like a couple of you beat me to it while I was poking around in photoshop, but here's a quick stab at it:

Web 3.0 (Ethereum) is happening, and most people have no idea what it even is.

    GOLD! IDEA
I don't know if Ethereum is the answer, but I do think that a ubiquitous and frictionless micropayment system would be MASSIVE. For the simple explanation, just imagine that your rep bank here were directly/instantly convertible into real dollars. Or maybe that each Like/Upvote/retweet or...

    SEO in 2017, IT'S ALIVE!

Consider this amazon product page: Fire - Amazon Official Site - 7" Tablet at an Incredible Price Lots of text, lots of educating users about the product, lots of relevant pics, FAQ, user reviews, etc. A good product page can manage a bit more than a few bullet points. If you wanted to do...

How to Learn Code, Start a Web Company, $15k+ per month within 9 months

    GOLD! SIDE HUSTLE
This whole discussion was based on the above statement, but what keeps apps from being in exactly the same place as websites? I can buy a Wordpress theme for $25, but I can also buy the source code for an app for $25. What makes your work worth more? I assume it's better and would be...

Mobile App/Game Marketing - Your Thoughts || Experiences?

    MARKETING SAAS / APPS
Sure, you can buy your way up the charts if you have deep enough pockets. I have no idea what your budget is, but I see most people coming at games/apps thinking that they're going to make some magic happen by spending what's effectively pocket-change on ads. That's hard because that's really...

Mobile App/Game Marketing - Your Thoughts || Experiences?

    MARKETING SAAS / APPS
The basic requirement of all paid traffic is that you eventually make more money from a user than you pay for its acquisition. The problem with most indie games is that they're terrible at retention and monetization. Most indies think they have a marketing problem when they're really just...

    Grass roots plan

Before you rely on this to live, verify the need. Post a craigslist ad in your intended area and see what the response is like. That way you either walk into a proven revenue stream or you find out quickly that you need to change your idea.

NEED help with building a forum!

    WEB/DIGITAL
The great thing about forums is that you get to rely on your users to make interesting content. The bad thing is that when you have no users, you have no content. Why would anyone visit your empty forum? Unless you have an otherwise captive audience or want to spend a few months talking to...

    Developing Warrior/Self-Improvement Brand

    HOT! MARKETING
People here sort of dogpile anyone who puts off even a hint of guruism, and it's usually well deserved and almost always well-intended, even if harsh (and it also almost universally leads to some great advice). But I just wanted to toss this out there: There are things you can teach people...

    College, College? College!

Ah sorry, it sounded like you were organizing things, not choosing which group to contribute to. If I were picking which group I wanted to be involved with on an ongoing basis, I would probably try to give a single talk at each first to gauge the interest levels. If I simply had to choose one...

    College, College? College!

I'm not the seasoned veteran that you're looking for, but I have spoken at a few colleges and conferences. Imo, anyone that you want to speak is going to care 100% about the audience and 0% about the venue. If you have a room full of people eager to actually listen and interact, then it...

    Monetizing gaming streaming/videos

Think about all of the warnings and discouragement that people get when they talk about developing their own games. Now consider that the number of people who can make a living developing games is multiple orders of magnitude greater than the number of people who can make a living playing...

Do visible tattoos negatively impact entrepreneurs business with customers, clients, or investors?

    HOT! PEOPLE
Different roles require (or at least encourage) different "uniforms", which are basically the set of expectations that comes along with that role. Sure, you can violate expectations and still succeed, but it likely adds a handicap. If you want to optimize for a particular role, make sure you...

Need a book cover designed? I'll do it for free.

    PUBLISHING
Not to jump on the dogpile, but here's the perspective I would take: Go to Amazon and pull 4 traditionally published covers from the best seller list in one of your genres. Show those along with one of your covers to someone and ask them which of the 5 look self-published. Once people stop...

    College in other countries?

Just a few things to keep in mind about studying abroad, not necessarily about Germany. There might not be a tuition charge, but to get an education visa, you'll probably have to prove that you have enough money in the bank for at least the first year and maybe the entire length of the program...
