    [PROGRESS THREAD]: Six-figure Fiction

One thing I found disappointing about the freebies was that they resulted in almost zero reviews. I gave away over 1,000 books and netted one review, possibly two at the most. Happily though, I did get one freebie review from a top reviewer which was good to see. But other than that, the...

I like your plans for tweaking things as you go. It will be interesting to see what kinds of results you get. Also just curious... Does your book have any reviews yet? I recall reading somewhere that for some reason, having some positive reviews can help boost your freebie numbers. When I...

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
Congrats, and keep us posted! From what I've seen (based on my VERY limited experience), each book seems to have an easier time getting sales, so hopefully your second book will do even better, and so on and so on...

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
As an update: Book 3 is doing significantly better than the first two. It's not selling a ton, but it IS selling. I've sold/borrowed about 100 in a little under a month. This is about five times the sales of the first two. This tells me that either Book 3 more appealing, or I'm benefiting from...

Wow, he makes 120,000 a month. Niiiiice. About a private author's group, I believe we decided to not use one after all, since most of us were too hesitant to share our pen names. When you move forward, though, it would be great to see a progress thread. It's always nice to see how others are...

Speaking for myself, I agree. But thanks so much for letting us kick around the idea. As more time goes on, the more I think I'd only share my pen name(s) with individuals via private correspondence. Or, if I decided to be braver about it, I'd probably just post it to the Inside.

Funny isn't it, how sometimes the things that sound great in theory might not be worth it when you consider all the nuances? The more I think about it, the more I wonder if I'd ever share my pen name either. I think I'd be more likely to share it in private correspondence than on a forum...

    [PROGRESS THREAD]: Six-figure Fiction

    PUBLISHING
Hmmm. This is food for thought. My first novel was 110k words until I shortened it to 90k for a publisher request. Since considering the self-pubbed route, I've tried to look at dividing it into two parts, but the story arc didnt quite fit. It might be time to give this another look. This...

Great update! If it helps, when I launched my first two books, I had zero non-family sales until I ran a free promo. I also ran a free promo for book 3 when sales started out at near zero. One benefit to doing the free thing is that in addition to snagging some new potential fans, your book...

Road to Becoming a Fastlane Author

    PUBLISHING
It's soooo hard to not look at stats, isn't it? I'm continually slapping myself. I'm no help! About your price point, you could always keep it at 2.99 for a while and then drop it to see what happens. Or, you could do the reverse, start out at 99 cents and raise it once you see what kind of...

Hello from Denver - self publishing success

    GOLD!
I've briefly looked at CreateSpace, and will probably publish at least one of my books through there. But my genre is one that seems to prefer print-versions. Currently, I have three Kindle books out, and one of them is showing some promise for longevity. That's the one I'll publish through...

Sharing Pen Name: Pros & Cons?

    PUBLISHING
Exactly my concern. It's a funny thing, too, because for some reason it's considered gauche to write something because you'd like to earn an income from it. Sad to say, but I think readers would be turned off by knowing a profit motive inspired the writing. Isn't that sad?

I wasn't able to figure this out until I published a couple of books, so you're ahead of me. I think this is a good testament to how much you learn by actually doing. Just think of how much we'll all know after ten books.

Ugh indeed! The whole category thing really is a pain in the butt. For my third book, I finally ended up in the categories I was shooting for, but then I disappeared right out of the primary one and never did make it back. I suspect they're tweaking their systems, or maybe they're just overrun...

Thanks for looking at this! If it were up to me, I'd pick option 2 or 3. Mostly, I'd just like to know that if I share private information related to a pen name or earning info that it's not up there for the whole world to see.

Wow, congrats!!! Please keep us posted on what kind of results you get, and how your progress goes from here. I like your approach to the covers. It definitely seems a smart move to keep a consistent look and feel for all the books in your series. BTW, that's helpful insight on the 315 words...

Hi From NYC ... Too old?

Well lets put it this way. You've probably got a good 30 years left, maybe more. What do you want those years to look like? You're not remotely close to being too old, unless your fast lane path involved the Olympics. Hopefully some of the lnowlege youve picked along the way will give you a...
