    Sign-Up Incentives?

    PUBLISHING
I haven't used incentives, but the guys who do the "Self Publishing Podcast" do. They seem to think they're effective, but also mentioned that they were a bit of a time-sink until they did some things to streamline the process. I've debated using incentives, but haven't decided for sure...

This forum is the real deal

    INTRO
Welcome to the forum! As far as next steps, here's a suggestion: If you haven't already, read "The Millionaire Fastlane." Read all the Gold threads on this forum. Re-read "The Millionaire Fastlane." Afterwards, you'll be amazed at how differently you look at things. For me, the most...

    Jumping on the bandwagon

    PUBLISHING
Once again, I'm in awe of your writing speed. I maintain my suspicion that you're either a cyborg or one of those Twilighty non-sleeping vampires. This is SO smart. I've been trying to do this more, too, and I always feel better for it. Unfortunately, I don't do it enough, and I'm suffering...

    Amazon visibility for new books.

Me neither. And I'm one of those zero-promotions people. One thing that's frustrating is that before you have a breakout book, it can be hard to secure the very best promo opportunities. For example, BookBub is supposed to be amazing. But they reject almost every author submission. (Of course...

Out of a Funk - a Newbie's Journey In Self Publishing

    PUBLISHING
I dunno...I like the descriptor, and it seems that a lot of the top-selling Indie books have them, so there must be something to it That wasn't the case for me, but I've also heard this. In related news, we've also had some authors on this forum who have done really well in getting into more...

    The haters

    OFF-TOPIC
Oh for crying out loud, when I read drivel like this, I can't help but think, "Where's that 'negative rep' button?'" You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. Also, if you want to drive at 150 mph, fine. Simply buy or rent your own race track. You have no right to endanger...

ACX - Turning Your Book Into an Audio Book

    PUBLISHING
An update...After a week, I've sold 117 audiobooks via ACX. At approximately $5 income per book (an estimate), I've recouped about 20% of my production costs. Hard to predict future sales, but this seems to bode well for turning a profit.

    My Fiction Attempt

    PUBLISHING
Interesting back story! Thinking as a reader though, It would probably be more likely to sway me against the book than for it, and here's why... In a way, it's like reading trivia for a movie. I love to read it after-the-fact (like on the Internet Movie Database), but until I've actually seen...

ACX - Turning Your Book Into an Audio Book

    PUBLISHING
This is very true, and something I didn't quite consider when I decided to pursue the ACX thing. But it is definitely worth considering, and something that might make me pause for the next book. Of my two books one is live, and the other is almost completed. Here' are some thoughts so far: THE...

Boy, it's so easy to be discouraged or have doubts in those early phases, isn't it? But remember, you're already so far ahead of the crowd just in the fact you hit "publish." So stop and give yourself a mental pat on the back. Yay! Anyway, here's a cheery thought...Looking at your book on...

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
The authors who do the "Self-Publishing Podcast" do this. They seem to think it's worth it, but admit that it's difficult to handle the logistics sometimes. They recently changed their system so it's more automated, but I'm fuzzy on the details. Now, for a Sad & Funny Free Promo Story... I do...

A Reader's Rants and Thoughts on Writing

    Amazon visibility for new books.

Alas, I disagree. I'm not feeling that there's self-pity here. To me, it comes across more as a thirst for data to help choose the right path. See, because authors are plagued by two totally conflicting sets of advice: Pick a genre, and just keep writing and publishing. because with enough...

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
I think it's a little of both. From what I understand, free used to be a lot more effective a couple years ago, but as Amazon changed their algos, and readers became jaded, it became less and less effective. Phase 1: Free books are ranked on the same Amazon charts as paid books. Plus, readers...
