Was making documents for a car today at car police office (one per region, so a lot of people there) and had to pay around $20 government fee. There was only one bank there that took $2 commission for that payment, which is 10%. Usually, local banks charge 0.5-1% or 0.12-0.25$ fixed commissions...

Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started (seriously)

    EXECUTION
Few things to add from my experience. Thing #6: Learn at least something about Entrepreneurship before you start - Otherwise, you'll be jumping from one idea to another looking for something that can make some money instead of focusing on the one thing that's providing value The consequence...

    Properly Executing a Soft Proof

    MARKETING
Well, your idea definitely has a much broader audience. Probably you can validate it online. Running into skinny-fat people on the street does sound rude, however, I don't think it's too rude to ask people who are working to solve their problem already. Like looking for them in the gym. You...

Product vs Service - Which Do you Prefer to Sell?

    HOT!
Sure, but doesn't this exists already? And if not, is it legal? Cause that's like sharing a lot of private info on customers, definitely won't be legal in EU with their recent GDPR. We do have this in Ukraine, though, and our companies are usually cloning products from abroad. We can definitely...

Product vs Service - Which Do you Prefer to Sell?

    HOT!
Anything, except AI really :) from embedded to high-frequency trading to complex web sites to games. I have 12 years of experience building commercial software and like 17 total in programming. Won national programming contests a few times in school and university and my partner on the first...

    Properly Executing a Soft Proof

    MARKETING
I'm not an expert, but here's what I would do Check if there's some competition and how're they doing. Weak competition may be a bad sign, other results are fine. Prepare interview questions focused on the problem, not mentioning the solution. And some mockups on paper with your proposed...

Once we hacked one pretty large online store that's connected to a Fortune 100 company with our tool... Got full access to their DB with ~500k client credit cards. Wrote them. No response. Checked again after 2 weeks, the hole was still there. Wrote again on different emails and attached some...

Product vs Service - Which Do you Prefer to Sell?

    HOT!
Yeah, everything applies to the software dev business. Except, the client can't pick from the menu cause he knows what he wants, but doesn't know how that would work. For example, we have two projects running now. One is cryptodividend, the other is under NDA. First was built in 20+ hours...

Yeah, start. Look for small businesses as your first clients that won't need much security anyway and would be happy of every small improvement they see. You don't need to know everything and have years of experience to be able to help them. Over time you would get more and more experience...

Product vs Service - Which Do you Prefer to Sell?

Great plan! REP+ I'm in the process of building a niche software development service business and had a little similar plan although not that detailed yet. You focus heavily on marketing and your partner on sales. This is pretty high-ticket business, so you won't have 100s of calls, but...

Well, I've used 2 of those services in the past. Had no need for gutter cleaning cause I don't have tall trees on my property. Definitely can add value there, at least in Ukraine). Do you have any ideas on improving the manufacturing you're working on?

Huawei : How lack of Control hits hard on a bigger scale.

Probably not, the screen usually takes more if you're not doing heavy computing tasks all the time. Bigger question who will port them from x86/amd64 to ARM. Java and Xamarin apps would be fine, all the big companies would have the time and money for their products, but what about smaller ones...

Huawei : How lack of Control hits hard on a bigger scale.

^^ this, just didn't want to post it here. Also, Intel CPU roadmap till 2021 doesn't look promising and competitive. While even after Spectre&Meltdown continuing buying Intel was somehow justified for the servers (and I'm more about cloud providers which are pretty huge part of the market)...

Huawei : How lack of Control hits hard on a bigger scale.

We'll be fine. There's also AMD and a bunch of companies producing ARM CPUs. Other chips are not made only by Intel too. In fact, we may see non-Intel Apple Macbooks soon. I won't bet on Intel till 2021, they'll probably survive and we'll continue to have some healthy competition in the industry.

Billionaire Dreams: What Makes You Happy?

    HOT! MINDSET
I'm not aiming for billions and not sure if money would help me with this. The idea is to create a living area for people with the right mindset, willing to voluntarily make it better by achieving collective goals that would benefit many. It can be any size: a neighborhood, a village, a town, a...

Hi You probably already have a background in some industry from your job and you should be able to add value there. What're the reasons to look for a different industry? It's not suitable for a small business? Welcome to the forum!

Huawei : How lack of Control hits hard on a bigger scale.

True. And for Huawei, it's not only Google but also Xilinx, Qualcomm, Intel, and Broadlink. Really bad for the industry already. It's probably hard to respect the Control commandment at that scale, like the possibility of government interventions. Those businesses have higher revenue than the...

Not sure when to give up on my idea

    IDEA
Sorry, I'm not buying that as a hypothetical client. If they want some work that means that they can't get enough work so something's definitely wrong with them as they should be getting more work from recommendation after making decent logos. Try more you-oriented and results-oriented...

The MAIN difference between someone who makes 100k /year and someone who makes 1m?

    GOLD!
I have a friend who co-owns a 260+ employes software outsourcing company, a CEO there, and actually founded it alone and got a partner later, so that's pretty similar to web design business I guess. From my observations: Trusting and delegating really important parts of the business. Building...
