    Local Events Listing Website

    IDEA
I was part of a startup team in 2016 that build out a local event recommendation app. It wasn't exactly the same, we used machine learning to build a recommendations model for each user, but same general idea. It worked, but it was nearly impossible for us to monetize. Users won't pay to use...

SAAS + Gadget Device = Location Lost Possessions or Stolen Goods? (Idea from NextDoor.com).

    IDEA PEOPLE
Also Tile predates them by a ways too. Apple has the benefit of turning every single one of their mobile devices into reporters on their Find My network by default, so you don't have to wait for someone to find the tracker and figure out what to do with it before it starts showing up on the map...

ChatGPT AI is a huge breakthrough, a Google killer

    - AI -
Copilot has the advantage of being trained on code, specifically for coding. ChatGPT is more generally trained. I've found that the recommendations I get out of Copilot are far better than the ones I get from ChatGPT. Plus, the integration in (most of, Xcode extension when, Github?!) the IDE...

I have an idea for a software, but i don't know how to program

    INTRO
As an experienced programmer, please don't do this. ChatGPT is decent at writing code, but not great. If you don't know what to ask for, you'll get authoritative responses that may or may not be correct/complete. If your project is simple enough to let ChatGPT write it, it's simple enough to...

What percentage of the fastlane forum users do you think are successful?

    OFF-TOPIC
One of the major takeaways I got from this thread are the successful people seem to never give up, and they never let their customers down.

    Need field-friendly software suggestions

    SAAS / APPS
It's your friendly neighborhood mobile developer, here to talk crap about web apps! Really though, if you want to build this yourself, don't do a web app. "Field" is a trigger word that implies unknown and potentially shoddy or absent network connection, which complicates web apps on mobile...

    So I lost my job....

Same problems. You can build more complex apps than nocode solutions, but you’ll eventually run into the same issues.

Can money buy happiness? Scientists (finally) say yes.

    NOTABLE! HOT! MINDSET
I feel so contrarian in this thread today. I swear I don’t mean to be, but I happen to have a counter example to this. Being a Floridian, if the governors election in 2018 had gone 0.1% the other way, I’m pretty certain my life would be significantly different right now. Granted, it’s been a...

I disagree entirely. And so does the study in MJs post.

    NOTABLE! HOT! MINDSET
I very much believe in the unhappy minority. You ever meet people that are just miserable no matter what happens? I swear, they create their own misery. The “why do bad things keep happening to me” crowd.

    So I lost my job....

So I’m happy to offer guidance or advice, but I can’t really do any coding for you. I’ve got enough of my own to write!

    So I lost my job....

I'm going to rail on no-code solutions a bit here. If you're building a prototype, or something veeeery limited in scope, they are usually fine. If you plan to go any further than trivial, you are going to wish you started with native languages and frameworks. Swift on iOS, kotlin on Android.

    So I lost my job....

Good luck! I remember getting laid off in 2009. It gave me the push to launch my first successful company and go full time into iOS development, which is what I've been doing ever since. I still have some of the t-shirts from that first company; in fact I happen to be wearing one today! Push...

BREAKING NEWS: The Mexican Fisherman has filed for bankruptcy.

    GOLD! MINDSET
I'm more familiar with the first section of that particular book (which, as far as I know, advocates wealth and claims poverty as an impediment to faith) but I know that rich Christians like Dave Ramsey regularly rail against the "poverty is spiritual" interpretation. I don't know whether Dave...

    Problem with my business venture

MARKETING EXECUTION WEB DESIGN TAXES | REGS
You say you found out that it's illegal. How did you find this out? Did you speak to a lawyer or some other kind of knowledgable advisor about this? Is it possible you're misinterpreting the law, or that it's technically on the books but not really enforced? Basically, step one is make sure...

    HOT! CHAT
I did paycheck-to-paycheck for a long time. Too long, really. It's nonstop stress. Currently, I'm in the situation that thread advocates. Comfortable. I have enough liquid cash in the bank to cover almost a year of expenses with no income if need be. I have a nice house and a stable job that...

Random Chat, Thoughts, Posts, and/or Rants Thread

    HOT! CHAT
First time back on the forum after a couple weeks away (vacation, then the upheaval of moving my fiancee into my house) and the first thread I clicked on is the "You'll never be rich, so don't try, just want less" one. Fired me up to get back to work. F*ck that guy, I'll never be satisfied with...
