    Follow the Wikipedia mold?

    WEB/DIGITAL
I'm generally against Wiki's, unless you want to be a non-profit. They require a ton of administration (cleaning up people who post inaccuracies, foul language, etc), and revenue is based on donations.

My Idea for this year, Please Critique

    IDEA
A local business where I live has a facebook page called "[City] To Do", and all they do is post restaurant lunch specials, bar drink specials, local events, etc. I contacted them to see about having them post some things for my business, and they told me they charge $100/year. It appears he...

Please Critique my concept, business/revenue/marketing model

    MARKETING
I don't see the Need... You can buy used text books from the local book store or online. And you only have to show up to class once to meet a pretty girl and get notes/class materials. Plus, now with things like Facebook and Craigslist, people can buy and sell things to each other pretty easily.

YOUR 2012 - In ONE Sentence

    HOT!
The "don't state your goals out loud" concept is misinterpreted. If your read the last two sentences you'll see that Sivers starts to clarify. The key is to not state your goal in a way that makes you feel you've already accomplished something. If your goal is SMART instead of vague and empty...

    Food Business - Family Recipe

Thanks Pete - very helpful. Does anyone know if you can patent a recipe? We could trade mark the name no problem, but it would be nice if we could have some legal protection over the recipe as well... Only my extended family knows the recipe, but would still be a nice form of insurance. Also...

    Food Business - Family Recipe

Thanks Pete. My next question was actually about government requirements... glad to see you started to address that. I realize that to get in a grocery store would require dietary labels, etc. We would obviously hold off on this until we knew we had a marketable product. Would there be any...

    Food Business - Family Recipe

My mom has a food (bread product) that she always makes around the holidays. Everyone loves it, and people look forward to it every year because she gives it as gifts. This is a family recipe and completely unique product that, to my knowledge, is not known by anyone outside of our family. My...

I own the .NET, how important is it to get the .COM, .ORG, etc?

    WEB/DIGITAL
I can send my current customers there, but the goal with the e-commerce site would be to sell to consumers outside of my current geographic footprint - thus I will be relying on SEO, PPC, etc. As a parked domain, it is not CURRENTLY competition, but I hate that it COULD BE - because the guy...

I own the .NET, how important is it to get the .COM, .ORG, etc?

    WEB/DIGITAL
But why would I use .ORG for an e-commerce site...? Aren't .ORG's typically for non-profits?

I own the .NET, how important is it to get the .COM, .ORG, etc?

    WEB/DIGITAL
For my B&M business, I own the name of the store.net, as .com was not available. Using Whois Lookup, I found the owner of the .com site (which is not currently being utilized), and tried to e-mail him to see if he would sell it to me, but got no response. The guy is in Japan, so I'm...

YOUR 2012 - In ONE Sentence

    HOT!
By July of 2012, I will grow my wife & I's B&M retail store to provide at least $5k/month profit, while having my wife only work 25 hours/week. At that point we will look into expanding physical locations and/or e-commerce. I will be able to quit my job at that point, although I may hold off...

    Four Hour Body

    HOT! MINDSET
I love the 4 Hour Body, as well as Tim's blog. I personally lost about 35lbs on the "slow carb diet" described in the book. The weight loss was nice, but the best benefit was the increased energy and mental focus. As MJ is fond of discussing with the conveyer belt, you don't realize what a big...

Purchasing an existing business, Finding true cost beyond price?

For a business to sell for $20k, it must be doing very poorly. That means it is likely losing money, and will require on-going expenses out of your pocked (or a line of credit) until it is profitable - ASSUMING YOU CAN TURN IT AROUND. You need to look at up to date financials for the restaurant...

Harder to make money online than brick and mortar?

i only know a small handful of Internet entrepreneurs, but they all put in quite a bit of hours - of course a lot of it is easy work but work none the less. Six hours a week must've been pretty nice, but I believe it is doable with a B&M business as well - eventually.
