Is building a content niche website in 2022 stupid?

    QUESTION
I don't think text is dead. It may not be as popular as it once was, but there are still plenty of people who want to read instead of watch videos (at least sometimes). I fall into this category myself - I can read something much faster than someone can say it on video, and I am impatient to...

That is so cool. Imagine having a business where you do demolition for buildings and get paid for it. Then you sell "drive a tank" sessions to people and let them do all the work, and get paid for that too!

Is anyone else receiving fake PayPal invoices for $499 lately? I've gotten two in about a week.

Best way to read financial newspaper

    IDEA
Good question. Look at what "hot" businesses are in the news, and see how you can serve them. For example, lots of people are trying to make money with AirBnB rentals. Nothing wrong with that, but how can you serve those people instead? For example: -help owners to prepare a unit for rent...

Figma Acquired by Adobe for $20 Billion

    CHAT
Wasn't the sale price something like 50x Figma's projected annual revenue? I am thinking the cost of the software will be going up soon ... plus layoffs.

Good point. If the economy produces the same amount of "stuff", but the price of everything doubles - did GDP really double? (nominal vs real)

Is Success down to hard work or luck?

    MINDSET
You are correct. Luck is BS. They really mean probability, which you can hack by effort. Plenty of "lucky" people who are born into riches do nothing with their lives. Most millionaires inherited nothing and built it all themselves. Make no mistake, though - hard work doesn't just mean...

How would you exit if you're an online instructor on several platforms?

    IDEA EXECUTION QUESTION
I have never encountered this issue, but I am also interested in the answer. Make sure that Udemy and the other platforms allow transfer of accounts. Otherwise, you might be violating their terms of service and you would risk losing the asset.

Online Business Acquisitions (M&A) - AMA

    EXECUTION
What are the absolute deal-breakers for you (automatic "no" criteria) when you are looking at companies to acquire? Do you have a minimum deal size? (e.g is it worth going through due diligence and getting lawyers involved for a biz worth $100k.)

WINTER IS COMING: European Winter of '22

    HOT! OFF-TOPIC
Yikes. I do not have pro insights, but at those energy rates, the cost to refrigerate/freeze food will go way up, so their prices will go way up. Look for a consumer shift from milk, meat, and other perishables to water, dry goods (oats, beans, flour, etc.), and canned food.

Good points Andy. I loved it when they added chapters to YouTube videos! When I write content, I give an easy-to-understand summary answer at the beginning (get to the point!) Then, people can keep reading to get more detail if they want to. I think they are more likely to stick around for...

Writing For Dollars: Building A Digital Asset For Sale

    HOT! EXECUTION
I'm glad your site is picking up! Yes, there are site owners out there who have a dozen sites, along with dozens of outsourced writers, and they bring in $10,000s per month. At that point, it is a human resource system, since you need enough good writers (or people you can train) and probably...

Yup - just like student loan debt forgiveness in the U.S. I'm sure it will totally make college more affordable and worthwhile. No way it could have the opposite effect!

    Is Entrepreneurship Lonely?

    QUESTION
Yes. This forum helps though! But still ... many of my close friends and family are 9 to 5-ers. Last week, a friend told me about how he is thinking about starting ... wait for it ... a 2nd job stocking shelves on the night shift (to help his young family keep up with inflation). I said "Why...

Google unveils a new search algo: The Helpful Content Update

Exactly! If I want a video, I will go to YouTube. It's 2022 - I think everyone already knows that YouTube exists if they want to watch video. Sometimes you just want to read text.

It makes me wonder if anyone pushing for a $30/hr wage at Amazon has done the basic math to get an idea of the cost: (# employees)×(average hours per year)×($30) A quick Google search suggests 1.6 million full or part time employees at Amazon. Not all are hourly, but just to get an idea...

How would you reach teachers and homeschool parents?

    MARKETING
Maybe you can find K-5 teachers with a sizable blog or social media following and offer them the game for free to try during class, in exchange for an honest review. If the students like it, they will talk about it too, word will spread, and hopefully people will start looking for copies of the...

Best side hustle for college student?

    SIDE HUSTLE
Did you do well on the SAT? If so: Get a group of 10 local high school students, charge each of them $20 per week for a 2-hour SAT prep session on Saturday morning (there are probably companies charging WAY more than that). That's $200 per week (more than covers your $700 per month rent) and...
