Software Engineer from Silicon Valley, breaking from the slowlane
INTROSounds fun! I like your approach; build something small to get your skills sharp, and then dive into bigger projects. So I’m working on my own project: helping people in your exact situation to get started running a software business. It would actually be a huge help for me to work with you on...- Skroob

Twitter officially bans third-party clients with new developer rules
https://blog.iconfactory.com/2023/01/twitterrific-end-of-an-era/ My favorite bit (emphasis mine): Reeks of “you can’t fire me, I quit!” Lack of Control scares the absolute hell out of me.- Skroob

What to eat if you can't cook/fry/boil anything?
HEALTHIf you can spend more ($60-$100), an induction cooktop is moderately safer. I’d recommend a microwave as well as the hotplate and the minifridge. You can almost certainly find a fridge and microwave for cheap or free on Craigslist or facebook groups. Oh, make sure you get yourself a little...- Skroob

Twitter officially bans third-party clients with new developer rules
Commandment of Control still undefeated. I ran in the same circles as the guys that made the iOS clients Tweetbot and Twitteriffic back in the day. Good dudes, but this is not the first time Twitter has jerked them around arbitrarily. Basing your business on the App Store and nothing else is...- Skroob

Random Chat, Thoughts, Posts, and/or Rants Thread
HOT! CHATDo y'all have thoughts about being politically outspoken? I describe myself as a conservative-leaning libertarian. However, I work in a very leftist industry (mobile development, specifically) where my views would get me labeled either "Republican" or "alt-right", depending on how little...- Skroob

Huge Security Alert: LastPass Suffers Major Data Breach - Here's What You Need to Know to Protect Yourself!
HOT! CRYPTO PEOPLEGood encryption can't be quickly hacked. Not everyone does it well. Some places don't even bother, which is why things like the RockYou wordlist exist. Anyway, I feel like we're talking in circles here. I'm clearly not convincing you of anything, so I'm gonna stop trying. If this is something...- Skroob

Huge Security Alert: LastPass Suffers Major Data Breach - Here's What You Need to Know to Protect Yourself!
HOT! CRYPTO PEOPLEOkay, so I'm signing up for an account on thesidewalkmessageboard.net. The signup form asks me for a creative username (MakeMoneyFast69), and a password. I use your method to generate a password. Great, it's not stored anywhere on my side, but that password still goes into the website's...- Skroob

Huge Security Alert: LastPass Suffers Major Data Breach - Here's What You Need to Know to Protect Yourself!
HOT! CRYPTO PEOPLEExcept the main stores that password leaks come from isn't password manager apps, it's hacked websites. It would eliminate this one, specific, exceedingly rare issue, introducing a new level of complexity with its own potential issues, and not actually addressing the real problem. It's making...- Skroob

Random Chat, Thoughts, Posts, and/or Rants Thread
HOT! CHATLiterally just tonight asked my fiancee how old I have to be before I can pull off a 100% Tommy Bahama based wardrobe. She said 50. I‘ve got 8 and a half years to work my way up to it. I’m Florida Man and I’m damn proud of it! :playful:- Skroob

Huge Security Alert: LastPass Suffers Major Data Breach - Here's What You Need to Know to Protect Yourself!
HOT! CRYPTO PEOPLESo nothing in that article indicates that 2FA has been “broken” in a cryptographic sense. Using both is vastly more secure than standard passwords. It feels like you’re arguing from a vague point in the future, where quantum computers are available and stable and have already made modern...- Skroob

How to target more ultra high wealth customers?
MARKETINGSo I can't speak for UHNW neighborhoods (yet), but I do live in a gated community in Florida, and when companies do exactly this, people get pissed. Explosive threads on nextdoor and the Facebook groups, "I'll never use these people again!", that kind of stuff. You're probably better off getting...- Skroob

Companies to AVOID as you succeed in your FASTLANE...
HOT! OFF-TOPICThrowing my vote for Affinity products as well. I've heard DaVinci Resolve recommended a million times as well. It's free, and allegedly really good. I'm a Mac guy, so I always used iMovie until I hit its limits, and then sprung for Final Cut.- Skroob

Looking for an idea for an iPhone app
IDEAThere’s a TON of work out there for web developers if you wanted to start freelancing in that, rather than something that wouldn’t advance your skills in an area you’re interested in.- Skroob
