    Quitting that 9to5 or not?

Well... most likely it won't as successful as Uber or Apple. But I know different people that are making good money out of simple mobile games. Nothing fancy, match 3, puzzles, etc. It just takes a week(s) for them to put a new game to the app store.

    Quitting that 9to5 or not?

It takes much more than just the idea. An idea alone is almost useless. Don't get me wrong - there's definitely good ones and bad ones. But a good execution can make something even out of a not great idea while bad execution will screw up even good one. Vision is also more than just an idea. If...

    Failure is not an option

    EXECUTION
Adding some personal TODOs here since that's important too: Drink much fewer energy drinks. Current ~3 a day is way too much. The give short term productivity boost but deplete max energy levels in a long term. Not good for health either. More vegetables to replace vitamins from energy drinks...

    Failure is not an option

    EXECUTION
Because the idea is boring, not very innovative/blockbuster but proven to work for me and others. Yet another software development company, with new knowledge/experience applied. !WARNING! TLDR Have some possible points of failure, but if that happens I'll just have to repeat with different...

    INTRO
"Pro driver" story somehow doesn't work for me... I'm coding for more than 19 years, commercially for more than 12. And somehow still hold a lot of passion for the industry. Just changing niches inside from time to time: science=>enterprise=>web=>games=>stock market=>crypto=>embedded(=>AI?)...

Your worst entrepreneurial failure... details please!

    NOTABLE!
How I erased a year of my life? Ok, here it goes. Act I and my friend who owned a 3d art company wanted to do some mobile game startup in 2012. I quit my 9-5, done a lot of fast prototyping and we settled on a game. Build it in less than 2 months, only some polishing left. But then we decided...

Your worst entrepreneurial failure... details please!

    NOTABLE!
If you have a rather small project (up to ~600 hours of development) it may be beneficial to negotiate a fixed price for the whole project with the developers. Pros: you know how much you would pay and what you would get for the money, no surprises. Cons: specifications should be pretty clear...

    Quitting that 9to5 or not?

Think carefully before learning programming and quitting your job. As a programmer myself, I assure that programming is much more than learning a programming language. You would also need to figure out: best practices, tools, libraries, testing, hosting, security, system administration (backups...

Thanks, Andy. Actually, not much has changed (yet). Yeah, their responses were strong, definitely showing a higher, Fastlane, level of thinking that slowlaners and sidewalkers. "To do great things" actually felt higher than other for me. It was from a founder of 200++ employees IT company. He...

Hi, I've been here before but wasn't visiting for over a year so it's probably nice to reintroduce myself. I'm Andriy, 31 from Ukraine, here are my first introduction and my first nice failure in case anyone's interested. Still wasting life on a 9-5 job, haven't made any serious attempts to...

Not Fulfilled? Depressed? Maybe You Need An Alignment

    GOLD! MINDSET
Thanks for taking to your time to write such a great thread @eliquid ! Now, after reading more about my personality, I'm wondering if everyone of 7.6 billion people fits one of those personality templates so well. Definitely agree with @Thiago Machado on this: I'm a stereotypical INTJ-T and...

(Radio Interview) Freedom, Motivation, & Grow What You Know

    MINDSET
Thanks @Andy Black for another great interview. It's completely aligns with a story about my first business venture: One of best reasons to get started in a business is you can not get started. It’s something you’re driven to do and you do it constantly. Four university students decided to...

AndyTalks with @Contrarian about starting his side hustle in local lead gen

    HOT! MARKETING
Thanks @Andy Black and @Contrarian for the talk. Here are my takeaways: Keep it simple. Don't over-complicate things for yourself. Understand that other people might don't understand a thing in areas you're familiar with, but they do know what's important to them and it's simple for them...

(Radio interview) How to quickly get started in business

    NOTABLE! MARKETING
@Andy Black thanks a lot for your "Thanks for following" and pointing me to this interview. It's been a huge help! My takeaways: "Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you." Being a money-chasing programmer that worked for US companies...

HOW DO I SERIOUSLY GIVE UP GAMING

    GOLD! MINDSET
Easy tricks from former gaming addict that WORKS Find more important and/or interesting ways to spend your time. Like 8 hours for the last 2 months on your 9-5 and 10 more hours on your new company + 1 hour in traffic. Did the trick for me 8 years ago. Zombies can't play. Cheat. Games are...

    Doing everything wrong so far

    INTRO
Hi everyone, Andriy from Ukraine here. Rules said "The more the better" so I wrote 3 pages about myself, but then thought that it won't contribute to much to this forum. Instead I'll try to focus on my lessons learned so far: Try avoiding making something with friends. Future vision may be...

    I've Read UNSCRIPTED!

    GOLD! HOT!
Almost finished reading Unscripted for second time. Very logical, honest, true and full book. Often my brain spots some bullshit in the information it receives. Not in this book, in fact I couldn't believe it so much that this was one of main reasons for reading it second time. Another reason...
