[Progress] Developing My Sleep Tracker Game

    HOT! EXECUTION
That's the spirit. If you don't own your code, you aren't in a much better position than a YouTuber that gets their account shut down all the sudden. What's the engine if I may ask? People making obscene amounts of millions back in the days writing games in Assembly and C would disagree. I'd...

    I need your advice

    IDEA WEB DESIGN
I've validate this properly. Although coding can be a useful skill to learn, specially if you are young. I'd learn JavaScript. You can build web, mobile, and game apps with it. You can use pretty much anything for anything these days, but that's what I'd do.

Unity Game Engine just exercised their power of control that would destroy Indie Game Scene

    HOT! RANT
Yeah, frameworks require a bit of work as they give you the basics. There's also MonoGame Extended, and Nez, which provide with more stuff. I'm not Carmack either and I made a small game on MonoGame :D I like it more than Godot, but YMMV. It really depends on what you are productive on. There...

Unity Game Engine just exercised their power of control that would destroy Indie Game Scene

    HOT! RANT
BTW if there's a actual exodus (which I'm yet to believe) from Unity to Godot, there's a business opportunity working on migrating projects, training, and creating assets.

Building a video games business from scratch

    EXECUTION
I haven't posted here in a while. Not much to report, really. I got a new freelance contract for 6 months that ends mid December. That's about it. I need to work more on my mindset because it's plain screwed-up. The amount of BS and self-sabotaging has raised to new levels. Bouncing from one...

Does anyone have any reccomendations for apps that keep your life scheduled?

    IDEA
It depends on how your brain works. Some people can stick to digital, some can't. Some others need a mix of both. I'm scattered, so I forget that I've got a Trello, Notion, Whatever tab open. The only system that worked for me for a while, and I'm still sticking to, is: Google Calendar to...

Unity Game Engine just exercised their power of control that would destroy Indie Game Scene

    HOT! RANT
Start with Godot then. MonoGame is excellent for 2D, but I haven't used it for 3D and I'm not sure it is that great for 3D anyway. Do your own research though, I don't have hands-on experience on this area. There are some 3D games made with it Showcase | MonoGame, so maybe it's viable. I think...

    Building a browser extension empire

    GOLD! HOT! EXECUTION
I imagine it depends on the extension. I'm curious now, I might do some Chrome Store research.

Unity Game Engine just exercised their power of control that would destroy Indie Game Scene

    HOT! RANT
MonoGame does support all major consoles. Plenty of good 2D games (Celeste, Hades, among others). This is the number 1 out there apart from Unity and Unreal in terms of console support. Defold supports Switch and PS4. PS5 says Q32023, Xbox Q22024. Godot will eventually have a third party that...

Average IQ of a Fastlane Millionaire?

    HOT! MINDSET
I got like 35 more points than the second best chess player in the world, on the same Mensa test (he uploaded a video on YouTube). I'm a 1200 player, he has beaten Magnus Carlsen. IQ tests are BS.

Unity Game Engine just exercised their power of control that would destroy Indie Game Scene

    HOT! RANT
I'm not sure the world needs more general-purpose game engines, there are plenty great quality ones that don't cost a dime and aren't run by BS companies that will pull the rug when they manage to get every one on. I would encourage people who like game engine programming to build their own if...

Unity Game Engine just exercised their power of control that would destroy Indie Game Scene

    HOT! RANT
A bit dramatic, as everything around "indie" game development. The loudest developers won't ever make 200k in revenue, so it doesn't affect them. But yeah, Unity sucks. This is one of the reasons why I made one of my games on something else (it's one of my threads here). I remember people saying...

Not really. Quite frustrated these days actually. But we'll get there.

Technical books and courses, good or bad idea?

    IDEA FEEDBACK
Thank you so much for these examples. I get your point. There cam be a mix of types of videos, it doesn't have to be the perfect, scripted one all the time. Okay, I'll reconsider. YouTube can he another interesting marketing tool that makes the cake sweeter. And the sweeter the better. The fact...

Technical books and courses, good or bad idea?

    IDEA FEEDBACK
Reading my comment again, I feel like I sound like a prick. Sorry :/ Yeah, that's cool. I was just wondering whether you offered something in particular apart from the courses themselves. I was following some guy who built a website (pretty much a blog) and was charging a montly/yearly fee for...

Technical books and courses, good or bad idea?

    IDEA FEEDBACK
I'll watch the video as soon as I can. Yeah, courses on your own website is a much better deal. Problem is having an audience first. I guess that's why so many people resort to Udemy for a while.

Technical books and courses, good or bad idea?

    IDEA FEEDBACK
Thanks folks for your insights, really appreciated :) There's plenty I wish was around when I started. But that was 20+ years ago. Today, you can more or less find your way through with tutorials. Unless you want something more substantial, then you resort to books, courses, etc. I wish there...

Technical books and courses, good or bad idea?

    IDEA FEEDBACK
Hey, TL;DR Has anyone had any success writing technical books (specially software development books) and courses? I'd like to see how other people are doing in this space. Longer version I've been studying this for a while, trying to see whether it's a viable strategy for make FU-money...

    Is developing video-games a Fastlane?

SIDE HUSTLE SAAS / APPS QUESTION
I don't think it is. That's an outlier, pretty much like a planetary alignment. What are the chances of some random folk sitting on a chair for 5 years and develop the skills to make a whole game by himself, and one that is actually great? I can surely code, and potentially compose music better...
