    Yes, at least starting out, I think the more niche you can get, the better. Starting out with content/copy for authors might work well. But then again, they're authors so maybe content is what they need as much as marketing/selling that content. Maybe ads for authors might be a better route...

    For starters, you can just Google it. There are TONS of free resources where you can simply plug in your company name and etc. Easy peasy. For me, I use a game plan (proposal) and everything is month to month anyway. It's all written in there. It's been 10 years now and it's worked just fine.
