    My $100,000 Christmas DVD project

    HOT!
I'm not religious myself either. I'm a scientist (not a scientologist). However, I have no problem with acknowledging forces more powerful than I am. Physics takes care of that. Some people call it Mother Nature. Oh, and this powerful force moving me along at the moment is excitement and...

    My $100,000 Christmas DVD project

    HOT!
Here are some of the key points of the launch plan: - Manufacturing ramp-up must be fast and flawless (order test copy from manufacturer, confirm all specs, green light decision) - Press releases to every religious newspaper/magazine, church (newsletters), religious blog and a few other places...

    My $100,000 Christmas DVD project

    HOT!
Update: - Launch plan developed - Found massive legal issues with key footage shot earlier this year which is unable to be rectified in time. Massive problem. Screaming, profanity and hair pulling skills were put to good use. In the end, we didn't do due diligence correctly and solving it would...

    How to prioritize?

I agree with most of the above. Allocate resources to finding those in your target market and converting them to customers as efficiently as possible, and then converting them to repeat customers. Even if you don't have a product yet, you can still pre-sell it.

    My $100,000 Christmas DVD project

    HOT!
I'd love to give you a tour of NYC, but I've only spent two weeks there back in 99, so my tour might be limited. Worst case scenario, we'll have fun getting lost :-) Given Starbucks' rate of store closure, we might have to search for a store there ;-) Can anyone give me a 101 on using lists...

    My $100,000 Christmas DVD project

    HOT!
I forgot to add that I'm doing this to: - increase my revenue by $100K in the next month - end 2008 with a bang - make a nice donation to people who really need it - rationalise a trip to the US to attend B&P. - show beginners here how a tiny little plan with some good execution can make a few...

    My $100,000 Christmas DVD project

    HOT!
I might be able to make myself $100K by Christmas with one product. To cut a long story short, I own a couple of companies, of which a small one is in media production. We're making a DVD for the religious market (I'm not religious, so this market is new to me), the contents of which don't...

Calculating the margin for your products

    WEB/DIGITAL
Pricing depends on how you want to position your brand/company in the market. If you want to develop a premium brand, source yourself a good product and charge a price which is at the top end of the market. If you're building a discount brand (not easy), find an economical supplier and charge at...

    Quickbooks and homicide

    OFF-TOPIC
Thanks Bob. That's a classic line! Thanks for the advice, but I found out Quickbooks somehow deleted a virtual COM port driver. I reinstalled it and it's fine. Now my only problem is that the end of day procedure will not post the day's transactions to QB. Arrgh! That can wait. Now today's...

    Fastest Business to Start

No problem :-) I like it when people are critical of ideas. It forces the person with the idea to justify it, and any flaws become apparent immediately. Then we can fix the flaws or drop the idea. It wouldn't be logical to start advertising without the lawyers in place, so incuring "overhead"...

    Fastest Business to Start

Bankruptcy hotline. Set up an 800 number and market it appropriately. It directs calls to bankruptcy lawyers in the local area automatically. The lawyer pays a monthly subscription fee of $500 to be a member. 1000 lawyers nationwide = $500K a month in revenue. You spend $100K a month...

    Quickbooks and homicide

    OFF-TOPIC
Well, it's 10:13pm on a Saturday night, and being the smooth kinda guy I am, I'm in my store after hours working on it to prepare it for sale. I'm not homicidal anymore, but here's the story. 20 minutes ago, I was at the point where rage had overcome me in a manner akin to the "straw breaking...

    New Employment Scam

I can't tell if the phone calls I always get after 6pm in my office, on my FAX line, are scams or marketing. The inevitably Indian or Filipino caller advises me I've been "selected" to win some kind of phone or holiday or whatever else. I never listen past that, and they hang up when I politely...

    Service That's TOO Good?

    WEB/DIGITAL
I think this company handled it very well. In their position, once I found out the shipment was less than satisfactory, I would have called customers and told them about the delay, asking for their decision. After all, the quality might be of utmost importance to that company, but for the...

Programming code: hiring someone to double check their work

Hi Snowbank, Is this really required? What if you just have some of the end users test a beta version of it comprehensively. They get a spec sheet from you and test every function. If it performs according to spec, no need to check code. The beta testers can also try to break it as well, and...

You need to listen to this guy! Sharp, articulate...I wish he was

    OFF-TOPIC
Re: You need to listen to this guy! Sharp, articulate...I wish he I appreciate it may have been political and therefore prohibited by forum rules, but I would have loved to have seen it for the articulation mentioned... and I'm especially unoffendable since I'm not in the US :-) If anyone knows...
