What is everybody working on right now?

Just going to throw together a basic platformer where you can move around and shoot enemies. Great way to learn the program, along with the basics of 2d animation while I search for an idea to base a serious commercial product on.

Been teaching myself to code GML and develop games. Throwing together a basic platformer to teach myself the ropes of the program and it's going well. You tend to run into tons of little problems that require rereading the manual and checking references, and then adjusting your way around them...

Compounding efforts and the benefits of delayed gratification would be two great things to teach a kid. I Definitely the benefits of delayed gratification and compounding efforts, as they're essential to a happy and accomplished life.

Unity Game Engine just exercised their power of control that would destroy Indie Game Scene

    HOT! RANT
Man, that story really takes me back to when their game sharing forum was still open. I would spend hours on that site when I was a kid downloading and sifting through projects and uploading my own. The program really grew and evolved, and the licensing fees and overall cost of operations are a...

Game Maker Studio is a great game engine provided the game you're building is 2D. It doesn't take any sort of sales cut from the developers.

I'll make sure to watch out about moving the goal post. My apartment's getting sold in 18 months and the new landlord will probably want to gut and renovate the place and move everyone out, so I'm on a bit of a timer to find a good 40/hr week foundational job with slightly above average pay...

What’s happening forum, posting this thread to document my self improvement journey from the ground up. I’m committing to building a base of stability and education so I can become a successful game developer. My goal at this point in time is not to become a multimillionaire, but to build the...

    Simply an introduction

    INTRO
I'd say start posting on social media in general to get a snowball effect going, and gradually release demos and open a discord server to foster community engagement, find playtests and get feedback. Great way to kill 2 birds with one stone. A game I followed called Pizza Tower did this, and...

Welcome aboard, Chris. As someone who's in the game development niche, I say go for it! You'll build a valuable and in demand skillset either way. From what I've seen some of the most successful indie games published built a following through frequent updates and community engagement before the...

    I've Read UNSCRIPTED!

    GOLD! HOT!
Read the book after I read fastlane. It does a great job following up on the themes introduced, and clarifying the CENTS principle, along with teaching you the basics of a money system.

    I've Read The Millionaire Fastlane!

    GOLD! HOT!
Read the book and it was great, I'd go as far as to say it has applications outside of building a business.
