Progress Thread - Starting my first digital business

    HOT! EXECUTION
Update Realized that having a fulltime job, being a fulltime student, having a family and starting a business at the same time, it's not easy. Since I'm completing my masters in a month, I've decided to put my business venture on pause until I finish school (school has been very demanding...

Year End Thought Exercise: 10 Questions to Ask about This Year

    MINDSET
What was your biggest triumph? Was there several, or none? Why? Got a new job with better pay, less stress and allows me to work on and invest in my 9-5 escape Got As in all my classes (doing a Masters in computer science, I’m one semester away from completing it) Spent quality time with my...

Lost my only user due to a security incident, my VPS got hacked. Before the incident, I reached out to him to get feedback, he ignored my message twice, then suddenly, I see a reply a few days after, he was complaining that the site was down. I took a look and noticed that the CPU usage was at...

Thank you and good question! Since I got this user I've been thinking if I should go back to this project and put some marketing efforts into it. I have a few things in mind. At the very least, I plan to reach out to him this weekend and see if he's willing to have a quick phone call with me...

By the way, I got my first client for my first proof of concept of a saas (foodtruckbites.com) This was a surprise because I stopped working on this tool months ago and never did any marketing for it, the client came from google. He has been using it for 6 days now and hasn't requested a refund :)

Update I got setup to start a solo web design agency, created the LLC, bank account, google profile, landing page, etc. Then a video of an entrepreneur that I admire popped-up in my YouTube feed selling an AI automation coaching program. Signed up for the program primarily to learn about client...

An Argentinian guy looking for a better future

    INTRO
Welcome Nicolas! My suggestions for learning new skills is: focus on what you need at the moment, so one step at the time. I think @MJ DeMarco has a similar analogy in one of his books: Starting a business is kind of like walking down a dark street at night with just a flashlight. You can’t...

UPDATE Despite being busy with my 9-5 + school-work + family, I've been able to deliver a final website for my first 2 clients. While working on these sites, I'm discovering issues that I wasn't aware before and/or that I didn't see them as opportunities for software products. To illustrate...

Still trying to unlock my entrepreneur brain, pretty stuck in Slowlane mode

    MINDSET
To complement DareDevil's reply, listen or read "Chapter 35: The Commandment of Need: How to Engineer Opportunity in any Industry" in the Unscripted book. It goes through entrepreneurial myths, ways to come up with fastlane ideas, and how to win the value competition in the market.

Hi Stefan, I'd like to learn more about your circumstances and maybe share ideas. I worked 5 years for a company that creates websites for law firms, so I'm familiar with the custom web dev industry. When Andy asked me what's something that I can do to get a sale in a week, I thought about...

Thank you! Nope, I don't need the immediate cash at the moment and yes, creating a software product (sass or a productized service) is still my favorite option to pursue. However, since website/web-app creation is sort of my forte, it also makes sense to start creating software for others, and...

No yet, since I'm not familiar with them. I'm getting started with what I know: I use Cursor AI + Next.js to create the sites To get inspirations and images for free, I use lovable.dev, v0.dev and base44 To deploy and host static sites for free, I use GitHub Pages If I need to create a site...

Should I get a job, or go all-in on my own business?

    MINDSET
I think you can do both. For context, I’m working full time as a software engineer, doing a masters in computer science, have a 21 months old baby and I’m starting a service business now. But you’d need to make some sacrifices to compensate: - wake up early (5-6am): work on your business before...
