    Up 40.84% for 2011

    INVESTING
Hi GW, congrats on your 2010 results. I only recognise one of the ticker codes in your list without taking the time to look each one up. How about you list a couple of basic facts next to each code so we can get a bit of a feel for what your portfolio actually consists of... such as company...

    Valutation of stocks in dollars

    INVESTING
I'd say both are to do with more USD being pumped into the system. More USD sloshing around looking for a home, so some of it has gone into the stock market, pushing prices up. However because there are more USD in circulation, the value of them versus other currencies has dropped.

    Help me define "Value"

Price and value are two different things, I agree. The price of a share can fluctuate quite quickly but the value of the under-lying company usually changes much more slowly. They are clearly two different things. So if they are two different things, price has nothing to do with value and...

Messy room - does it mean anything?

    MINDSET
Interesting thread. Thanks for the links Russ. I did the tests and on one test I was: 11 questions left brain and 8 right brain. On the other: 75% left vs 25% right and 56% auditory vs 43% visual. In terms of being neat and organised I have changed over the years, particularly the last...

petrol station potentially going in next to property I'm selling

    REAL ESTATE
I have a rental property that I'm selling. Its a three bedroom house. It is actually zoned commercial and is surrounded on all sides by a shopping centre car-park. I bought the property cheaply about six years ago and have been renting it out to a residential tenant. The buyer of our...

I see you live in the US so if you're wanting to research companies listed in the US, try Valueline. I use something similar here in Australia. Then there's the website of the company you're investigating... there's typically an investor information section. I haven't read the book so I can't...

    Australia/99designs...Copyright THEFT?

Hi Russ, Here is an extract from the document "Logos G028" that is on the list of documents at this web address: Information Sheets — Australian Copyright Council The first paragraph tells me the second design is definitely an infringement of copyright. Infringement If a logo is...

    asset rich, cash poor?

I don't think the word "cash" in that statement really refers to cash as such, but more specifically it refers to positive cash flow. I consider this statement to really mean - own lots of stuff but have little (or no) positive cash flow from those things. When someone says it their money is...

What are a million, a billion and a trillion?

    HOT!
I think software companies have a better chance than most other industries of fitting this description. The application gets developed (once). It is then sold again and again and again... In addition to buying a license, customers will pay for services to install the software, configure...

What are a million, a billion and a trillion?

Another possible way to benefit from inflation is to invest in highly profitable companies that can increase earnings without needing much more additional capital. Top line increases faster than expenses therefore profits increase. Buying in of course at a price that's below the company's...

I'm guessing you looked at BHP's NYSE listing and did your analysis from that? Have you checked out the ASX or UK listing? It wasn't that long ago that the UK listing was 20% less than the ASX listing... not sure how the US listing compares to either of those? Anyway just thought I'd put...
